Daniel Gafford is signing a 3-year extension with the Mavericks worth nearly $60M, per Shams Charania
.

Phew. Makes him untradeable for awhile. Hopefully that means an end to the Gafford talk.

Solid move for the Mavs.

Gafford is probably an MLE player. That is what $14million this summer? So paid him a bit over that. Not too bad though. $20mil is becoming the going rate for a low level starter. $30-35mil for a middle of the pack starter. $40-60mil for a high level starter.

Dallas can afford to pay their role players more with Cooper Flagg on that rookie scale contract. Only 2 big contracts in Kyrie and AD. More to go around for the rest of the squad.

Well that pours cold water on my Jrue for Gafford + Hardy idea lol

Boston would have to pay something close to that to keep Gafford anyway. So I don't think anything has changed.

My other idea was Jrue + a pick for DeRozan + Ellis. Other than that I honestly don't know. If it's not Dallas or Sacramento who can realistically get him (or wants him)

I saw one betting site has the Nuggets as the favorites to trade for Jrue, which is interesting.

Not sure Boston is going to be able to even give Holiday away at this point. Their return for him is going to be awful

Nevermind! No six month trade restriction for Daniel Gafford.

He can be traded immediately.

The trade to the Clippers would be brutal. Bogan is beyond washed. They have nothing of valueI would give Jrue for.

Latest ESPN article proposes Holiday thru Dallas thru Brooklyn for eventually, PJ Washington, though also includes our '27 first rounder. I'd like to add Washington, we need interior help in the worst way and this deal also cuts our salary & tax significantly. It might be a good start.

The possibility of Phoenix expanding the Durant trade remains since the deal can?t become official until July 6th, HoopsHype has learned. Durant reunites with Rockets coach Ime Udoka, whom he spent time with on the Brooklyn Nets. Udoka was the head coach of the Boston Celtics and was in favor of the organization trying to acquire Durant when the organization dangled a package centered around Jaylen Brown, league sources told HoopsHype. Now, while finalizing his contract extension with the Rockets, Udoka encouraged Houston to trade for Durant, sources said. This time, Udoka got his man. hours ago  via HoopsHype

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Sounds good to me! PJ is a very solid player. Can guard 2-4. Plays hard.

ESPN once again shows it's out of touch.

didn't see Jrue going to Portland so I can't fault them for missing that but can't remember when ESPN predicted anything accurately or close to it.

It's hard for anyone to predict what Brad will do.  Most of his deals are nothing close to what rumors are out there and are typically a surprise.  I expect any other deal to be the same and for there to be 1 or 2 more trades before the end of tomorrows 1st round.

So in net, the Boston Celtics so far have traded

Jrue- 32.4 million this year (+72 million in 2026-2028)
Porzingis- 30.7 million this year

and received

Simons- 27.7 million this year
Niang- 8.2 million this year
Three second round picks

So far they've saved about 27 million in player salaries and something like 200 million in tax next year, pending further moves.

Things to watch:
1) Do they dump Niang, probably could package him and a second to save more money.
2) Do they still trade Hauser? If they moved both him and Niang for no money in return they could even duck the tax. Hauser probably has late first round pick type value I'd think.
3) Do Horford/Kornet return? If this is a gap season maybe Horford wants to go somewhere to actually compete. They now have more financial flexibility to bring those guys back.
4) Related to the above, they are now pretty thin at center. Do they go after someone there?
5) Do they move up, move out, stay put at the draft?

Mavs extending both Kyrie (3yr/119M) and Gifford (3yr/60M).
