Bobby Marks was talking about PJ Washington as a target in a Jrue trade, which makes a ton of sense.

Dallas needs someone who can play pg while Kyrie is out and Jrue is someone who can do that and then play next to Kyrie when he gets back. With AD, Lively, Gafford, and Flagg coming in, it's hard to see where Washington's minutes are coming from.

For the Celtics, I like the idea of bringing back a big for Jrue. I like the idea of Tatum, Brown, White, and Washington together on the perimeter for the Celtics. Everyone can shoot, defend, and switch. Those pieces would fit together nicely.

Is PJ Washington a big though? I would prefer Gafford + Hardy back personally

I'm a bit surprised at some of our obsession with Gafford, seeing as we played him completely off the court in the finals just a year ago. He was unplayable.

Real question - how much better is he than Queta? He can't defend the pick and roll or switched out onto smaller players. He's a decent helpside defender and ok post defender. He rebounds at a good level. He doesn't stretch the floor and is heavily reliant on lobs for his offense.

Isn't that essentially just Queta, but with more playing time?

I'm not a massive Gafford fan or anything. It's just that if we are trading Jrue/KP, I just want to get back affordable playable players who aren't about to age out of the league.

I'm actually a Queta fan and think he still has a lot of potential. I prefer PJ over Gafford for sure. If we can do better than Gafford, I am all for it

Living in Ohio, I can tell you the CAVS are trying to dump Okoro.

My head is spinning from all the possibilities but can we -
Stretch KP and this KEEP JRue while dumping Hauser for 2nds and run it back with hope of Tatum returning come playoff time? I?ve been called stupid over this but that?s Boston for ya. I find this avenue a bit to optimistic but I was just wondering. Thanks .

Stretching KP and trading Hauser does save 30 mil and gets us under the 2nd apron.

But it's not great to add dead cap to the next 3 seasons. Plus even if Tatum is able to return late in the year what are the odds he'll be good enough for it to matter?

And on top of that we'll just head into the following season with the same cap issues.

Meh, at this point, I don't think any suggestion can be labeled stupid, short of trading Tatum for Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison.

BTW, was anyone else surprised that PJ Washington is only 26? We've been talking about trading for him for so long that he feels a lot older.

I keep seeing the "stretch Kp" thing thrown around and I just don't think there's any, even like a 1% chance, that they do that. Sure, it frees up money next year, but it LOCKS him onto the team for three years at 10 million with no way to move him. Basically you shift money from a non-competing year onto future competing years. I think there's a higher chance they trade Derick White to save money than stretch Kp.

I was also called ?stupid? for suggesting they stretch KP. That said, I really do not understand why it is not serious consideration. After all, they still need a starting level center for the next 3 years and $10M/year for KP seems pretty like a reasonable amount to pay. If anything, I would think that KP himself would not want the deal, because it reduces his career earnings to $30M for the next 3 years rather than earning $30M next year alone.

I don't think anyone should be called stupid for Celtics offseason ideas lol

That said, you can't just stretch a players contract. They have to be waived and stretched.

Right. I get that part and the assumption is no one else picks up KP.

I wanted to add that I do not consider $30M over the next 3 years to be dead weight salary. KP is a talented starting center in this league.  You need a starting center in any case and will have to pay that person.

If we waive and stretch him we can't pick him back up for a year even if no one else in the league signs him.

Not sure they get much of anything in return for Jrue at this point.

***Waking up to see this trade. From everything that was floated as a rumor at least this deal brought back a guy they can either play or move if needed. Without adding sweetners to move Jrue is a positive.

Not sure how Simons fits in Boston but he is better than what was rumored out there.

Stevens strikes again.   This is better than I anticipated.
