Out: Jaylen Brown

In: Stephon Castle, Harrison Barnes, Keldon Johnson

Celtics starting lineup:
White, Castle, Tatum, Barnes, KP

Bench: Jrue, Hauser, Pritchard, Johnson, Kornet

Barnes is also an expiring contract at $19M

Spurs starting lineup:
Fox, Vassell, Brown, Sochan, Wemby

Bench: CP3, Chapangnie, Mamuk, Wesley, Boyombo, FA

Works in trade machine. Win/win.

I would need the 2nd pick in the draft as well or no deal.

Stephon Castle is a beast. He just won Rookie of the year. Absolute stud.

I know. But if I?m trading an all nba caliber player I need a high draft pick that I can use as well as Castle. If that?s a deal breaker then ask to take that pick swap from the white deal off.

Fair. But, otherwise, that?s a great move for both teams.

I would consider it. I'd still want them to add a future year's 1st but it doesn't have to be this year's #2 overall. I'm that high on Castle.

Ultimately though I'd still only trade Jaylen if it's for Flagg. *Maybe* Giannis. A package with Castle might be the 3rd consideration in any Jaylen trade for me.

I would definitely have to think about it.

Im not a fan of Johnson or Barnes, but whatever. I think Barnes contract expires next summer and Johnsons deal isnt terrible. Im a huge Castle fan - thought he should have been the first overall pick last year. Has All-NBA potential imo.

I highly doubt SAS would also trade the number 2 pick in such a deal. But maybe they could sweeten the pot with the #14 pick? A lot of players I like in that range.

However, I think if you go this route, it starts to make more sense to do a full tear-down and tank in 2026. That means trading White, which I reallyyyy dont wanna do.

Can?t imagine SAS would be so willing to give up Castle, but I agree that it would have to be a total tear-down. My son just got a Derrick White shirt, though, so we can?t trade him.

Michael Carter Williams won rookie of the year too. Castle won it in a historically weak draft class where he got lots of runway especially when the Spurs were tanking in the end. I personally don?t think he?s much more than a solid bench player with good defense on a good team, not someone you should worry about building around for the future. As far as Johnson I think he?s wildly overrated as well. Give me Devin Vassell starting in a package, maybe their 2026 draft pick. I think Vassell would be an excellent number 3 option on a very good team. The problem with his fit on the Spurs there are lots of guards, and Vassell is a little too small to play SF. I?d love to get their 2nd pick this year, but I?m guessing they won?t bite on that.

There have been maybe 2 rookie of the year winners over the last 20 years that didn?t turn out to be studs. MCW career was derailed by injuries.

Castle was already outplaying Vassell towards the end of the year, averaging 18pts,6rebs,7ast. He?s going to be an all-star in this league. He also has the size at 6?6 215lbs to play the 1,2, and 3.

I extremely highly doubt Castle will ever be an all star, and you totally dismissed my comment it was a historically bad rookie class which puts in context rookie of the years the last 20 years. He can?t shoot (28.5 from 3), and his defense is solid nothing spectacular. My opinion he is going top out as just a solid player, not nearly a stud. He was given lots of rope the last few weeks of the season when it didn?t mean anything and they were trying to tank.

Vassell is the guy I?d want as a very good 3rd option on a very good team. Vassell was dealing with some injuries last year so a little down from his previous 2 years but much more efficient than Castle. As long as Vassell checks out health wise he?s my choice.

Well, nobody is trading for Brown now with a meniscus tear.

Pritchard might be our option 1 first half of next season.

Depending on who else we trade, we might be able to get into the lottery at this point.  JT / JB out for most of the year at least, probably trading Jrue / KP, Al might not be back.   PP and White and whatever else we can cobble together.   Does that team still make the playoffs in the East?   The east is really bad at the bottom, so maybe.

Interesting trade.

Dylan Harper to come in to replace Stephon Castle. Jaylen gives them a star forward. Wemby, Fox. D Vassell. Sochan.
