Hard not to consider the implications of this. We got one championship, but we thought we had this year and next year to contend for a second. That's all gone now.

Can't imagine Horford comes back to a team that can't really compete for a championship next year. We definitely can't stay in the 2nd apron now, which likely means Jrue needs to be traded. While Zinger at his best can definitely help us win games without Tatum, he's proving to be unreliable and we only have him signed through next season. That means it may make sense to trade him too.

Next year becomes a developmental year for Brown and White's playmaking, while trying to develop Queta and a couple wings to be rotation guys, plus whatever we can get for Zinger and Jrue.

Get better soon Tatum. Your fans love you, and this is a major bummer for everyone.

one more time. listen closely

we shoulda been in FINALS in 2018. we blew it

we easily coulda won a title in 2022. go see why we did not
with IME we make finals again and have great shot to repeat or win.
win again in 2024 with IME
make finals again this year with IME. great shot to win again.

we have NO COACH. we are a rudderless ship.

I'm not convinced Ime could have won us a chip even if he wasn't a sexual harraser. Every team he's coached has had an absolutely terrible half court offense, and then struggled when the pace slows down in the playoffs. I'll take the 2024 ring with Mazulla any day over hypothetical Ime seasons.
I'm bitter.

Without Tatum next season, Celtics probably a 6th or 7th seed cause u can?t depend on Porzingus plus Horford & Holiday are getting up there

Here are three wing players with their stats pre- and post-Achilles surgery:

For the record, KD suffered his at age 31 in 2019, Kobe at age 35 in 2013, and Dominique at age 31 (back in 1991). Dominique's is probably the most remarkable because his Achilles injury happened 34 years ago (presumably medical treatment for Achilles tears has improved since then) and he had his highest scoring average the year of his comeback. KD's personal production is virtually unchanged, while Kobe's diminished, but he was 35 years old when he tore his Achilles so he was already losing his explosiveness anyway.

It's never easy to recover from any type of serious injury so it's understandable that Scaryjerry, given he's a pessimist and very bearish on the Cs in general and Tatum in particular, would feel that Tatum has zero chance of being successful from now on and will be a useless waste of space and money. After all DeMarcus Cousins suffered two Achilles injuries and was never the same. But in Tatum's favor are a) he is young, at 27; b) he is in great physical condition; and c) his game relies more on his jumpshot than his driving to the basket (which we all complain about). But, we'll never know how he reacts to surgery and recovery until it actually happens, so debating what he will be like coming back is really a futile (although fun) exercise. But, that's what forums like this are for  :police:

* disclaimer being that I don't actually know if Tatum has an Achilles injury

One thing I?m confident about with Tatum is that he?ll put in the work to recover.
Yup

We have no idea what this team is going to look like but I think Al retires, Sam is moved as is Jrue and/or KP.

Gets them under that apron and they are a low seed in the east or a lottery team.

I would prefer moving on from Brown if possible.

2023 was the real missed opportunity along with this season. This year they looked pretty entitled and really didn't think they needed to play hard to win. This is pretty much the same team as was in the regular season attitude wise.

And this playoffs looks a lot like the 2023 playoffs.

I am trying to follow along here, but what you've posted is essentially a short list of recent seasons caveated by "if the Celtics didn't lose in those years, then they would have won instead".

Presumably you are making a point about the coaching staff - so why do you think the front office has made the same set of  mistakes over the last eight years (from 2018 onward)?

I do love the optimism but to win even just back to back you have to have a generational talent on the team.  Tatum is great but he is not in the same class as a Lebron, Curry or Durant in their primes as much as we would love to think so.  Nevermind the rest of the talent those teams had around those players Bosh, Wade, Thompson, Green, etc.

Since 2019 no defending title team has made it past the 2nd round.  It just is not easy to win back to back.  Joe is not a great coach but to think with Ime we would have rattled off 3 straight simplifies it and really undersells how difficult it is to win a title.  In the end talent is what matters most and ours is a bit banged up from playing so many games the last few years and Tatum is not at the same level as a Jokic or Giannis but even they got bounced in the 2nd round after winning the year before.

Again I love the optimism I just think you are making it sound too easy to win a title nevermind back to back when that is just not the reality.

Going to be a tough offseason a pretty rough 2025-26. Feel like this franchise is about to take 3 steps backwards and have to start over again.
