Yeah the biggest concern here is the lingering effect this will have on him as the playoffs will only be more and more physical so to be dinged up already is tough.  I do not think we could get out of next round without him honestly.  If he is banged up a bit and playing then we should, but is going to be tougher still for sure.

Now in the short-term if it is only missing one game and then back, I think this could help us lock in and focus tomorrow night.  The hospital Celtics do not take teams for granted as much when they are not fully healthy.  Lets see.

I?m not too worried.  It looked like a very hard fall; that he?s only doubtful and now out is encouraging to me.

I think Al is going to be the one to step up. He sounded livid at the Magic, and angry Al can still take over a game.  I look for the Celtics to win by at least 15.

this is from a similar discussion on SoSH about tatum's injury. the poster is radsoxfan, a medical doctor who often chimes in on injuries.

"Distal radius bone bruise is overall not bad.

Sucks if its painful and he can't play game 2, but I would be surprised if it's a super long term issue.

Certainly something that could be played through in a later round/more urgent game, if needed."

Stinks. Though it wouldn?t surprise me if he plays tomorrow, but could also very well take tomorrow off to give him more days off. Should absolutely be able to win tomorrow at home without JT.

Doesn?t sound like a long-term thing that will keep him out, but the more concerning aspect is whether this will limit him moving forward, especially with his shot already being suspect right now.

Yeah, I can't imagine that this will help his shot.

Yes, could be a rallying moment for a team who will definitely benefit from finding motivators, especially in the early rounds.

I'll be interested to see how Jaylen looks tomorrow. Tatum has never missed a playoff game but in Game 7 of the 2023 ECF, he got hurt early and when the team needed Jaylen to step up he just couldn't. Bad turnovers especially.

His decision making has improved but his handles are still shaky. But he's gonna need to step up in Tatum's absence if he misses multiple games.

The cs better come out ticked off tomorrow.  Dirty play by orlando.  I blame the refs.  They let the magic be as physical as they wanted and didn't call anything.

Yuck.

I guess he was just going on adrenaline for the end of Game 1?  Other than the missed FTs, he played pretty well after the injury.  (Why Joe had him finish the game after the injury is another question, but that's an ongoing thing.)

I guess the soreness didn't manifest until after the game. I guess with a 16 point lead, in hindsight, he could have been taken out, but at the time it happened everyone in the IGT was nervous that the Magic would mount a comeback. As you say other than the 2 missed free throws he played pretty well.

I must say at the time I thought that JT was embellishing a little bit to try and get the flagrant called...maybe this is just some foxing from the team to create uncertainty in the Magic in terms of them planning for whether or not JT plays in G2.

Agreed...He grabbed his elbow and spun him around in mid-air...DIRTY play....He didn't just hit Tatum on the elbow.

A lot of people didnt think it was a flagrant but if you look at the play he made no effort to get the ball. He grabbed him by the arm and pulled him down while Tatum was in a very vulnerable position. High chance for injury which is what ended up happening.

And the blame should definitely be on the refs for allowing that crap all game from Orlando. It felt like an away game whistle for us. We need to have Torey Craig come out and clothesline banchero in the 1st qtr
everyone got so sensitive after 9-11... thanks alot bin laden

This might bother Tatum for 1-2 games but overall if no fractures or ligament injuries then he will be fine within a week.

Hope this is the reality, though he did say it will likely bother his shot at first.

Still a bummer because 1) his absence could prolong the series, wearing down the team sooner; and 2) his 3pt shot was already in need of work.
