Among the greatest screen actors of the late 1960s through 1990s. Hackman and his wife were found dead in their home.  Cause of death not yet known. Apparently their dog was found dead as well.

What a great career.  He was one of my favorites.  I think Bonnie and Clyde was the first movie remember him in. Prolific actor - he was everywhere for a while.  Won academy award for French Connection.  We all remember him in Hoosiers, and Superman.

RIP

Apparently not foul play.  So maybe carbon monoxide poisoning?

Their cause of death has not been confirmed but it is not believed to be foul play, Santa Fe County Sheriff?s Office spokesperson Denise Womack-Avila told CNN Thursday morning.

I love good westerns so Unforgiven is his 1st movie I thought of.  Eastwood, Freeman and Hackman together is hard to beat.  He was also great in The Quick and the Dead with Stone, DiCaprio and Crowe.

I was just thinking about him yesterday. I was trying that new TV show Prime Target and the 2nd episode was reminding me of The Conversation from the 70s. Great film. Great actor. I was also thinking how much better Gene Hackman was at pulling you the audience with him as he was surveilling people compared to the TV actor in Prime Target who was struggling to take you with them.

I also loved that legal thriller with Hackman and John Cusack. Runaway Jury. His list of quality films is incredible. Great career.

Acting legend.  So many great roles.  Obviously, French Connection, Hoosiers, The Conversation, Superman all immediately come to mind.  Then you got Mississippi Burning. How about him & Denzel going head to head in Crimson Tide?  Unforgiven.  Then you got a generation knowing him from Royal Tenenbaums.

95 years is a helluva life.

The Birdcage was one of my favorites of his.  He played the missplaxced conservative blowhard to a T.

Do you remember him in Young Frankenstein?  Great role - one scene as the blind man. He lit Frankenstein (Peter Boyle) on fire. Great scene.

What's even more amazing is, he retired in 2004, except for narrating two documentaries about the Marines.

Oh yeah.  He and Dianne Wiest are such an underrated part of that movie.  Obviously they're playing alongside comedy heavyweights like Robin Williams and Nathan Lane but those two are great in that movie.
