I'm going to make the case to trade for him.One of the problems with him.Is that he's injured all the time?In this trade , we keep Payton Prichard.

Turns into a long-term battle between Peyton. And morant to see who's the long term starting point guard.

Imagine Morant being your fourth or fifth option in the playoffs.  Nice luxury to have. Not as many teams crazy about Ja. Brooklyn probably the top spot.

Horfords final year next year as we go for three rings in a row.

Porzingis/Kornet
Horford/Queta
Tatum/Hauser
Brown/White
Morant/Prichard

That's a heck of a team to stop, even as OKC gets better.

Why exactly is Memphis trading Morant for a 34-year old Holiday??

I mean I'd love it for us, no clue why MEM does it.

Memphis laughs and hangs up. Ja Morant is their future, their franchise guy. Who do Celtics fans think Zach Kleiman is, Nico Harrison? No way they taking an over-the-hill Jrue and two firsts for Morant.

Might want to start with Jaylen Brown for any Ja Morant conversations

In the case you haven't heard a lot of people are saying that morant is the most likely star to be moved in the off-season.Memphis is very successful without him.The corner of stones are really Bane and Jackson.

He's not the perceived superstar fans think. He misses tons of games every year. He's played in 32 games this year which is much better than recently.

Maybe White is more to there liking but outside of Brooklyn and the Magic not as much interest in Morant than you may think.  Don't forget about the guns. Almost banned from the league.

Morant is the reason fans go to Grizzlies games. He?s still very young and a star in the league. Makes no sense for Memphis.

Maybe Nico Harrison is the Grizzlies GM in this scenario.

And all those reasons are why we should NOT trade for him.  Also Morant being a poor 3pt shooter is a bad fit for the offense and he's a poor defender.  Plus Morant, Tatum and Brown would be a lousy fit.

Memphis hangs up but I would do it
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

I think it could happen for the following reasons.

1. Memphis and the Celtics have a pre existing relationship. Smart didn?t work out for them anymore than he worked out for us here, but nobody thinks that trade was unfair. It was the swing they wanted to take, and both sides were satisfied with the returns. Stevens and Kleinman are capable of hammering out a deal.

2. Ja Morant Will likely be moved this off-season. It hasn?t worked out due to the injury concerns, off the court issues, and friction with his father Tee Morant but that doesn?t mean that they would ship him just anywhere. If our offer was close in value to a worse team?s, they might send him to the Celtics as a gesture to the player and agent.

3. Memphis is a top 4 team in the West as constructed. They are not only looking for young prospect and picks style deals. They would view Holiday as a solid addition to their core, who?s game fits their style of play. For the same reason that we replaced Smart with Holiday, they would be looking to make the same move.

4. From the Celtics perspective, it?s probably one of the last ways to replace Holiday with a young, max level guard. Despite Morant?s injury concerns and lack of a pure jump shot, this move would extend the window while keeping the rest of the core intact. If you ever come to the day where you have to break up the Jay?s without bottoming out, you?d be happy to still have Morant.

Sacramento got 3 firsts and 3 seconds for Fox, while taking on Lavine.  I suspect this is more in line with what MEM would look for in return for Morant.  I know there were more parts than this, but this is the general idea.

I don't really like this trade for either team.

If I was MEM, I would not trade Morant.  Give him another season to get settled.  His value will likely go up, not down.

I don't think the fact that we did a trade in the past makes for a good reason for them to make a trade in the future.  It worked out in that Memphis is very good team in a strong conference.  However, Smart didn't have nearly the impact that KP had. Whatever injury/attitude concerns there are for Ja, Jrue's age is just as bad if not worse.  I love Jrue (just got a new t-shirt featuring him) but this is crazy lopsided.

That's how I feel.  Memphis could do better, and we don't need an often-injured scoring guard with a gun fetish.

Plus, we can't take on salary in a trade, nor aggregate salaries, so it's a non-starter, right?

From Memphis? perspective, We didn?t trade Smart for KP. We traded Smart for Tyus Jones and 2 1st?s as part of a larger deal that landed us KP.

The trade clearly worked out best for us getting KP and picks but at that time Smart was the starting PG on a championship contender. The deal was not great, but I don?t think that the Grizzlies front office would have any issue with the negotiations.

As for being lopsided, Jrue Holiday has 2 rings now with 2 different organizations, and is cost controlled at fair market value. It?s not a stretch to think that he could end up being the best player they could add to their core without causing disruption. Tack on that that they could rebuild their coffers with 2 more first round picks and I just don?t think this deal isn?t as far off as it seems at first glance.

I don't think Memphis felt swindled in the negotiation, I just think it takes more than than believing your trade partner is honest to make a deal. Holiday is making 30 million a year for three years after this one and he's only going to get worse.  I think the Celtics were right to give him the contract as it let him focus on winning last year, but we'll pay the price for it in the future.  I'm also not sure you can build an offense around the players left on Memphis.  If I'm a Grizzlies fan, I would not feel good about this deal.
