He earned it.  He's been killing it in Maine.

Here's how it works:

The annual showcase of premier young talent, featuring a mini-tournament with four teams and three games, will air at 9 p.m. ET on TNT. The Castrol Rising Stars champion will earn a spot to play in the 2025 NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. ET on TNT.

The Castrol Rising Stars player pool consists of 10 NBA rookies, 11 NBA sophomores and seven NBA G League players.  The 21 NBA players, selected by NBA assistant coaches, will be drafted onto three seven-player teams.  The seven NBA G League players, selected by the league office, will comprise the fourth team.

Davison is a 3rd year player so he can't be selected as a rookie or a sophomore.  He isn't actually a G-League player either as he is a 2-way player.  It must be implied that "NBA G League" players includes 2-way players.

I would think that the top rookies and sophomores are generally going to be much better players than G-Leaguers and 2-way players.  Not sure how completive this G-League/2-way team is going to be.

This is how the league is presenting the selections.

Full player pool:

Not an impressive bunch overall other than Wembanyama.  Add Cooper Flagg to the G-Leaguers and I'm taking them, haha.

For reasons I can?t quite understand, he is my daughter?s third favorite Celtic, behind Tatum and Brown.  She will be psyched! I was hopeful to get her up to Maine to see him play more than garbage time, but we just haven?t been able to schedule it.

Congrats to him!  I still have hopes that he will be on the 15-man some day.  He is still just 22.  There is time.

It is also weird that Reed Sheppard, the #3 pick last draft, is on the G League team and not the rookie team.

I feel like this kid has done all he can to earn a shot, but I can't for the life of me figure out how he gets one.  His skillset doesn't fit what Boston needs.  Is he enticing enough for a team like Brooklyn, which has no interesting guards aside from Cam Thomas, to take a flyer on him?  Even if he were, I can't assume that he'd have enough value to get anything more than a conditional second back, so we'd basically just be trying to do the kid a favor.  Maybe we'd do that, I don't know.

He's the basketball equivalent of a AAAA player.  Fortunately he's still just 22, so there's plenty of ball in front of him.

Exactly what I was going to say.  They are obviously taking some liberties with the categories.  I have no issue with that I guess, it is just an exhibition game.

I am guessing it is the hairdo.

So the Sophs would be:

G: Scoot Henderson, K George
G: B Coulibaly, Cason Wallace
F: B Miller, G Dick
F: Amen Thompson, Jaquez
C: Wemby, Lively, Trayce Jackson-Davis

Not sure who should start between Coulibaly and G Dick, I'd probably go with G Dick myself but I expect Coulibaly gets the nod.

And the Rooks would be

G: Bud Carrington, J McCain
G: S Castle, D Knecht
F: Z Rissacher, J Wells
F: T Da Silva, A Sarr
C: Z Edey, Y Missi

Isn't McCain out for the season? Why bother putting him on the team? They only got two ball-handlers in Castle and Carrington with no McCain.

Not great but not too bad a side. Wemby aside, they could've matched up fairly well with the Sophs.

She has insisted it isn?t, and he changed his hair anyway this year and she is still a big fan.

Let's not forget that Queeta was a G-league player.

Sometimes these guys develop and come good as added depth pieces.

Considering that the Celtics are well over the cap, any extra talent they can develop on the cheap is an added bonus.

It's hard to improve this roster because of the financial limitations. Sometimes improving your back end 12-15 spots can help over the course of a long 82 game regular season schedule.

Certainly I don't expect JD Davision to play any high leverage minutes any time soon but that's not how he will be used if he ever gets a call up to the big squad.
