Walker Kessler

I was listening to the Kevin O'Connor show and he brought up the possibility of the Celtics trading Springer and two first round picks for Walker Kessler. Why would Utah make this deal? What am I missing?

For Utah, they really want future pick(s), and Springer has some potential as a young player.

FWIW I believe I read a report recently as well that they were asking the Lakers for Knecht and 2 future FRPs lol. I'm sure the asking prices will go down a bit but it seems for Kessler you'll have to give up either 2 first round picks OR 1 first round pick and a legit young player.

But if there is a bidding war, maybe Ainge gets his wish. I do think other teams are more desperate for Kessler than we are. I do love Kessler as a potential Horford replacement long term, maybe pairing him with KP and Queta/Kornet.

Personally I'd go after Day'Ron Sharpe or Daniel Theis. Cheaper options. And then bring back Lonnie Walker for free (we do have a free roster spot right now)

Marc Stein saying Kessler is pretty much unavailable at this point. That Ainge is asking for a lot and that nobody is meeting Ainge's expectations so as a result Ainge has no intention of moving Kessler.

Is Kessler better than Luke Kornet?  I know it seems like he is and he certainly is younger but I am not sure how much better Kessler makes us this season.  He would be a nice get if we got him at fair value, but I see no need to overpay to get him.  I don't think the state of the team is as desperate as many seem to think.  We don't need to make a "desperate" trade to get a player that may not help us all that much.

Brad Stevens has shown a history of making shock to the system moves (Derrick White trade) and this Kessler idea seems it would fit his approach of immediate impact with good upside moving forward.

He at least has higher gravity as an around the basket threat than Kornett which could open up lanes for the backcourt. If Horford has given indications that he might only be around for a season or 2, it would make sense to lock up his replacement to build chemistry with the core.

Not sure if we could put together a package that would pry him from Ainge, but the FO?s obviously have a good rapport and it would certainly help DA in the race to the bottom this year. Cooper Flagg would do well in Utah.

Interest in Kessler would be similar to the interest we showed in Poeltl.  That trade didn't come to fruition, but Brad explored it heavily.

Kessler would be a great fit for us.  The problem is that we'd have to either jettison him after next year, or tear down the team otherwise.  We just couldn't afford him in free agency.

But, that's tomorrow's problem.  I'd be all in on my Springer + Scheierman + #1 + Washington #2 for Kessler + Svi idea.  You'd have to hope that Utah valued Scheierman as a recent #1.

Which is why Danny wouldn?t accept two firsts from the Celtics. Kessler is their starting center. He is 23 and on team friendly deal. The offer would have to blow Utah away.

Oh my bad I sort of misunderstood the question.

The Jazz are still rebuilding and probably don't think they can pay Kessler long term, so it's better to trade him for some assets if you can rather than let him walk for nothing. But I agree, idk why they would trade him, they should keep him and add some stars around him and a few others.

i would hope the celtics can manage to draft Danny Wolf in the first round. he really seems like good player and is 7 foot, averages 12 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 3.8 apg, 1.5 blocks, and shoots the 3 at 36.2%.

It is a steep price. My logic in the past was, when Horford retires we could have Kessler replace him to go along with KP/Kornet/Queta.

I mean my original dream Horford replacement was Isaiah Stewart but that's not happening and he got paid in Detroit. Tillman fits the mold too but unfortunately this year may be a lost year for him for some reason (injuries or just regression).

I was thinking the Lakers may target Kessler now. They badly need a rim protector. Kessler is one of the few semi-available ones on the market.

Maybe A Reaves for Kessler.
Or Knecht for Kessler.
Or that 2031 1st round pick for Kessler.
