Sox are in trouble. Cora went all in tonight and it failed. He made the mistake of sticking with Romy and Refsnyder, who've been awful at the plate. Duran dropped a very catchable ball. Eaton didn't score on the error at first. Now they'll have a rookie, or a terrible Harrison, starting a must-win Game 3.

Probably should have picked up a legitimate starting pitcher at the deadline, like Toronto did with Shane Bieber.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Totally should?ve. May was a waste.

Why do people keep acting like Harrison sucks? He has a 4.39 ERA in 194.2 career innings over three MLB seasons. And he just turned 24. Do I want him out there pitching in a series-deciding game? Probably not. But that doesn't mean he sucks.

And if makes anyone feel better, Early won't be the only rookie starting Game 3. The Yankees' Cam Schlittler (a Walpole native) started the season in AA Somerset.

As far as I'm concerned we're playing with house money right now. Giolito is likely done for the year. Houck is done this year and possibly next. Fits, Crawford, and Dobbins are done. Buehler is gone.

Losing Giolito was probably the straw that broke the camel's back. At least this is a good opportunity for our remaining young pitchers step up and get a taste of the playoff atmosphere.

But our offense needs to wake up. The pitching doesn't matter if we can't score runs. We need some deep balls that don't die on the warning track (ugh). Abreu needs to shake off the rust and catch fire somehow. Duran needs to get into a rhythm. Rafaela needs to find a way to focus more consistently. He has so much talent and is so close to being a great 2-way player. There's just something off there mentally. But he cracks that bat like a whip. I hope he can figure it out.

A lot needs to go right if we're going to get much deeper in these playoffs. I do think Toronto is beatable - their rotation is sketchy after Gausman, and honestly Gausman doesn't even scare me that much. Seattle is playing very well and has no major flaws. The National League Champion will be very strong. We're a long shot to get past the ALCS if we somehow knock off both the Yankees and Jays. But I wouldn't mind seeing us try.

Yeah ultimately the offense is going to have to come through and score runs, and convert more with RISP. They absolutely should have had 5-6 runs at least if they didn't make dumb mistakes either.

Looks like it's gonna end in a whimper. Not Early or the pitching's fault.

Horrific bats and horrific outfield defense all series. Truth is, the Sox just didn't have much depth either and without Roman Anthony, Giolito, Mayer, etc. it was just tough.

Oh and PLEASE trade Duran this offseason and ADD a #2 SP and another big bat for the middle.

Hate to see Boston losing to a New York sports team where it matters most, AGAIN

Giants, Jets, Knicks, Yankees...yuck.

Tough loss. Bad body language. Guys looked rattled out there. Shlittler was great but he also left a ton of fastballs over the middle of the plate. Sox let him be too comfortable out there. Duran in particular has the infuriating habit of fouling off pitches that would be easy doubles if he'd stop trying to pull the ball.

Gotta shorten up that swing and take what the pitcher gives you. Get baserunners and make the pitcher labor.

Defense really let Early down. Offense too. Feel bad for the kid.

I?m just glad the Sox traded away the best hitter on the team and then brought in a pitcher that was about to be DFA at the deadline. Well played, John Henry and company!

But that's not true at all. I just checked a few sites and the Sox are ranked anywhere from 5th-best to 12th best in runs saved.

And Kristian Campbell, our pitchers, and 1B are responsible for a ton of negative runs apparently - meaning the rest of the team is very good, especially Rafaela, who would have had the best rating in baseball had he played in CF all year and not switched to 2nd to help the team.
