The NBA's All-Star Game is going to be an All-Star tournament this season, with the league announcing Tuesday that it has finalized plans to use a different format for the upcoming midseason showcase in San Francisco.

And scoring is sure to be down -- way, way, way down.

This season's format is a four-team, three-game, one-night tournament, featuring three teams of eight All-Stars each, with the fourth team being the winner of the Rising Stars challenge for first- and second-year players. The winning team in all games will be the first to score 40 points.

I don't think this is the answer.
More gimmicks from the NBA office. Who does one root for? The team that gets Tatum? That seems arbitrary. Beyond that the 4th team of young players has no chance whatsoever.

The physicality they allow Giannis to get away with is just unbelievable. Literally jumps on Dort on the ground and no call.

The insanity of that play is that Dort usually gets away with a ton against everybody else.  Dude was mugging Doncic all series long in the playoffs last year.  Not even he's immune to that Giannis bias though.

Maybe the young players will be more interested than the old guys and bring it.  Also, maybe the NBA will be nice and put Wemby on that team.

OKC only 2-20 on threes. Hard to win when shooting that badly.

OKC going with their micro-ball lineup

C: Jalen Williams (6-6 220lbs)
F: Ajay Mitchell (6-5 190lbs)
F: Dort (6-4 220lbs)
G: I Joe (6-3 190lbs)
G: Caruso (6-5 190lbs)

SGA just subbed in for Ajay Mitchell.

Pretty disappointing showing for OKC in the second half. Doesn't bode well for the main critique against them being their youth and lack of experience.

Giannis has done a great job protecting the basket defensively today. That is his 2nd block and he has intimidating at least 4 other layups into misses.

Pretty big statement win by Milwaukee, particularly without Middleton. They may legitimately hold a title contender to 81 points in 2024, which is huge given their defensive liabilities and overall reputation.

On the other side, awful loss for OKC that casts a lot of doubt on their offense and their overall reliability once the games matter. Not being able to score more than 81 points against a Bucks defense with perhaps the worst perimeter defense in the league - let alone with a MVP caliber point guard that should dominate mismatches with Dame - says a lot.

While clearly talented with potential, I still think OKC has a lot of growing up to do before being a serious title threat. They may have trouble getting through both Denver and Dallas in the West.

Kinda speaks to the overall talent of OKC that they can weather the loss of Holmgren and still look like an elite team most nights.  They literally don't have a backup big right now.  Not even a guy like Queta.  When Hartenstein sits, they use Jalen Williams or Kenrich Williams at the 5 and go small.  JDub plays bigger than his size but that's just a lot to ask.

They're major title threats with Holmgren on the court but they're putting a lot of eggs in the basket of a guy built like a stick insect who has already struggled with injuries to start his career.
