SGA is playing poorly and his team is up 50+

Why isn't the media criticizing him for having a superteam and benefitting from that. How is SGA considered an MVP with a superteam? I thought the superteam is what kept Tatum out of those discussions despite the team having an elite record ::)

Ive been asking this for months with no answer. Everything they use to discredit Tatum gets swept under the rug for everyone else.

Same with Joe Mazulla, he got no love last year with the team breaking nba records left and right

Exactly. And frankly I feel the same with Jokic, like he should be the MVP this year not SGA. Have you seen what Jokic's team has been this year? Without him they are very toast, and he also nearly averaged an actual triple double.

Alright, time to watch the Heat upset the Cavs

It won't happen but man it'd be so funny if Cavs lost Game 1 rightaway

Tatum = 26.8ppg on 58.2% TS% +0.6% rTS%

SGA = 32.7ppg on 63.1% TS% +5.5% rTS%

TS% League Average = 57.6%

That is why one of these guys is getting MVP attention and the other one is an afterthought. Tatum was barely above league average in scoring efficiency while scoring considerably less points per game. Almost 6ppg less (5.9ppg). The difference between SGA and Tatum in points per game is the difference between Tatum (6th in ppg) and Brandon Miller (44th in ppg).

SGA did it while scoring not only with far more volume but also far superior efficiency. SGA ranked 17th best in the league in TS% with most of the guys ahead of him being basic dunking big me. The only high volume scorers ahead of him are Jokic and Durant. Then very good scorers Z LaVine and D Sabonis although neither scores on anywhere near the volume Shai does.

OKC's Superteam

Stars

* SGA
* Jalen Williams = 69 games played, 13 missed
* I Hartenstein = 57 games played, 25 games missed
* Chet Holmgren = 32 games played, 50 games missed
* Dort = 71 games played

Chet and Hartenstein played together only 20 times this season. The other 75% of the season they had only one of them available. A few nights neither of them available.

Bench

* Caruso = 54 games played, 28 games missed
* Cason Wallace = 68 games, 14 games missed
* A Wiggins - 76 games played
* I Joe = 74 games played
* Kendrich Williams = 69 games played, 13 missed
* Jaylin Williams = 47 games played, 35 games missed

Why is this a superteam?

When they are healthy, yeah okay. But they have barely been healthy all year. They have missed at least one of their top 4 guys for 75% of the season. This is a regular high level team.

Their bench are not world beaters. Caruso has the biggest reputation of all of them but he missed nearly 40% of the season himself.

Miami holding their own so far.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Bam hasn't really shown a ton of improvement in recent years. I think this is just who he's gonna be. Of course, it helps too that he can get away with some illegal screens

Have to give MIA some credit. I didn't think they'd give CLE any issues (thought a sweep) but they've kept it close. In striking distance, down 6

Cool to see playoff basketball back in Houston with the red crowd (last time they made it was the Bubble Year in Disney). Don't think they've played a playoff game in HOU since the Harden days

Great start for Houston. Just a ton of athleticism and hustle all over too

Was Harden still there back then?

Is their 1st time in the playoffs since Harden left?

I think so. He left Houston after 2020 via trade to BKN. 2020 was the last time they made the playoffs.
