Knicks might be a bit of a mess opening night. Not a lot of chemistry with that group.

Have to think Minny makes another move. Randle/Gobert is a far worse fit than KAT/Gobert and I genuinely don't think Randle is the piece they like the most in this deal - they need a guy on the wing like DDV.

Not sure why you don't think Randle and Gobert don't work. They work better than KAT-Gobert. In fact, I'd argue that Randle is a better fit. He actually provides some play-making for others where KAT didn't, and he can defend a little more on the perimeter (and in general).

Might be a hot take, but I think it?s a good trade for NY. I think KAT will play better beside a ball hog in Brunson so he can pick his spots and take advantage of his mismatches. The Knicks are clearly Brunson?s team and they needed a highly skilled guy who doesn?t want the big moments

I'll hand it to the Knicks for making some great roster upgrades the past couple years, but they still have $230 million tied up in two guys who simply can't stay healthy in Anunoby and Mitchell. That is a huge problem and I'm not sure it gets addressed enough.

What is Minny's ownership situation now?  Minny has the 2nd highest team salary this season which is probably not sustainable for them.  Getting out of KAT's new contract may be the piece they like the most.  Randle has a player option next season and so do Gobert and Reid.

Because the move kills the spacing of an already middle of the road offense? A bit of playmaker doesn't come close to making that up.

Last I heard, Glen Taylor was still owner but ARod and his partner were looking into legal options. So yes, it could be a move to shed salary since I think KAT had 3 years left on his deal.

TP thank you. KAT is a career 40% shooter from 3. He's not just a good shooter "for a big," he's a good shooter flat out as a 50/40/84 guy for his career. Randle is a big that wants the ball to iso in the midrange, that's just not a good fit next to Gobert with Ant being the main guy there.

The word from the Towns camp is this: "Stunned." Nine years with the Wolves. Impeccable in the community. All-Star and All-NBA. Now a New York Knick.

Seven GMs and 5 coaches for KAT in his first 8 seasons. Revolving door of co-stars. Then how accommodating he was to Gobert and Edwards. They don?t beat Denver without him.

One thing to be clear on tonight: KAT did not request this trade. He never has requested a move in nine years here.

This is why I'll never be mad at a player for requesting a trade.

A 3rd Knick included in the trade.

The Knicks are set to acquire Karl-Anthony Towns from the Wolves, and are sending back Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, Keita Bates-Diop and a protected first-round pick via the Detroit Pistons. The Charlotte Hornets are also involved in the trade to help balance out salaries in this move for the Knicks.

Randle's playoff resume

2021 = 29.8% FG% 33% 3PT% 18ppg 11.6rpg 4apg
2023 = 37.4% FG% 25.8% FG% 16ppg 8.3rpg 3.6apg

Randle was popping off 6.6 three pointers a game on those shooting numbers. High volume. 46.2% TS% across those two playoff runs (15 games).

The Knicks clearly improved on paper, with a stretch 5 who is pretty efficient with a mid 80s FT percentage and a career 40% 3 point shooter.  Just have to wonder if Towns can fit into the culture there, where they play hard all 48 minutes.  Also his rebounding numbers have declined through the years, although the Knicks are pretty much a gang rebounding team, so that may not matter that much.  I guess it moves Robinson to back up role when he returns. KAT is only 28.

Not gonna lie, I think the Knicks got better.  Will be interesting to see how we match up against the Knicks, especially when both are at full strength (i.e. when KP returns).

Still love the Celtics, though.

Detroit's 1st round pick to New York protected for selections 1-13 in 2025, 1-11 in 2026 and 1-9 in 2027; if Detroit has not conveyed a 1st round pick to New York by 2027, then Detroit will instead convey its 2027 2nd round pick to New York (via Houston to Oklahoma City) [Detroit-Houston, 11/24/2020; Houston-Oklahoma City, 7/30/2021; New York-Oklahoma City, 6/23/2022]
