I would think (hope) that based on their history, the current group will vet the new owner carefully. However, if what Cuban said is accurate, and the current franchise valuation only makes sense if there's real estate - i.e. a new arena - involved, then it gets really interesting.

There's not a lot of room to build an arena in the Boston area - along with retail, hotel etc - i.e. what Kraft has at Patriot Place.

Looks like Wyc wants to see this championship window through to 2028 and then cash out. Can't blame him, he brought two championships to the city and probably doesn't want to get involved in another rebuild when keeping this team over the 2nd apron gets too onerous both roster wise and financially (he'd be looking at $300k+ just in luxury tax if they got into the repeater tax and didn't reset it through to 2028).
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

Here is the official ownership announcement and as

reported, it?s Wyc Grousbeck majority ownership. He is expected to remain majority governor until 2028. #Celtics.

Well, Wyc?s group gave us 2 championships, and possibly more. Can?t blame them for selling at a huge profit. And it looks like he?s gonna manage the team til 2028. Let?s just hope the new owners are as passionate.

Wyc always mentioned that the owners were fans of the team first. Hope that is a prerequisite for the buyers.

This sounds a lot like what Cuban did. Sold the team and stayed on

No it sounds like it's all their shares - i.e. pretty much the entire team. There may be some minority shares not controlled by Boston Basketball Partners, but here's who makes up the group according to Wikipedia:

Looks like the Grousbeck's want out and the rest of the partnership agrees.

  • GOT IT!!!
As long as the new group has plenty of FU money it should be fine because the initial investment won?t come close to what Wyc is about to cash out on.

Does this affect daily business now and does this affect JT's extension?

God help us if we get an inept ownership group like the Suns got.

The release says Wyc will stay on as Governor of the team through 2028 so I do think they'll be fine for most of this current window, though it could effect Tatum's extension to a degree. I'd be more concerned about Brad staying on when new bosses come on board.

I would have thought JT's extension should come first. Then this announcement.

Wow. I hope this isn't a bad thing.
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.
