Wenyen Gabriel is on South Sudan. Was wondering if they had any NBA players.

Also Maine Celtic Marial Shayok!

Never heard of him.

I looked him up just now. He?s going to be 29 in a few days. Really don?t understand giving him a spot at that age.

Giving him a spot in Maine?  Because most players on a G League roster aren?t actually affiliated with the NBA team.  So Maine decides on about half their players independently of the Celtics and tries to sign guys to have a functional roster.

I hate to say this, but Tatum doesn't look very good.

He just can't get his scoring game going right now unless he gets downhill at the rim, but he's still hunting that jumpshot instead - partly because we're running him at the 3 with Bam and AD clogging the paint.  With the Celtics, he made up for his inefficiency by being the engine of the offense and creating for guys, and his size and rebounding presence were a major plus as well for a team whose bigs are mediocre rebounders.  But this Olympic team doesn't need those things from him.  So he's kinda drifting with no clear role.

By contrast, Jrue is just doing the Jrue things that he always does and he looks much better for this squad.

Jrue and white turned this game around

Tatum has been much better this 4th quarter

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Meh. Good for team USA to have some late game pressure.

Will make them better in the long run

I just feel like it makes more sense to give the Maine spots to younger guys that are still improving vs a soon to be 29 year old.

If USA plays like this every game they will definitely lose a game

I'm not sure. They had a lead, but played down to their competition. It's hard to play with max energy against a team that you know isn't that good. I think this team can sweep everyone without their best stuff.

How about now?

If Team USA does lose, I hope we get some snarky Jaylen Twitter comment about it.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Long gone are the days when Angola were happy to just be on the court with Michael, Larry and Magic. And of Charles saying "I don't know much about Angola...but Angola's in trouble". These days South Sudan, another African country, isn't just prepared to make up the numbers. They're not there to get LeBum, Steph's autographs. They're there to hoop!

USA has too many head chefs and not enough line cooks.  They have six guys in the rotation who either dominate the basketball or have a very diminished impact on the game... and KD would be a seventh if he was actually playing.

Feel like the team would be better without half of those guys and with a couple of Hauser-type players instead.  Hauser would be the worst overall player on the roster by far, but he's elite at exactly what this team needs and doesn't have.

I mean it is a really old and slow team. Lebron is 39, curry is 36 and Durant is about to be. Holiday is 34 and Embid and Davis are basically the oldest 30 year olds in the world. I think fans of all these guys just gotta be hoping they don?t get injured (and this is all after we had Leonard trying to play).

What did I miss? They played poorly against South Sudan, and still won. They have beat every team they have played against, despite stretches of uninspired basketball. They can play poorly or they can play well with the same result- a win.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.
