Just a reminder that over the past two seasons (2022 and 2023), the Celtics have raked in at least $225 million in operating income (profit).

Wyc will be fine, particularly with the new TV contract, the bump in revenue from the championship, etc.

Its not my money, I hope Wyc just spends what it takes. But he very well might not so pointing out the cost of a player matters if you're trying to figure out what the team looks like going forward.

Not spending money on supporting casts leads to losses and too many losses leads to STAR and FAN dissatisfaction.

So just let the good times roll.  can?t cheap out now .

Brads call?if he thinks Hauser is da man , then I guess he should pay him , unless there is somebody cheaper who can shoot as good.

Many many moons ago, this franchise got itself in trouble giving big money to mediocre players (among them Dee Brown, Dino Radja and then later the likes of Mark Blount). Worst thing you can do in this league is overpay for guys who don't move the needle.

Hauser's a nice player, but he's limited. Nice backup - fine if you can get him for the going rate for a 7th guy in the rotation. Given however what they're paying for their top 6, Hauser should be able to do better on the open market.

If someone hurts your flexibility then overpaying them hurts, but we're over the second apron whether we pay Hauser or not. We shouldn't pay him way over what he's worth, but if we let him walk we can't replace him. You have to pay him, even if it's just to trade him for a cheaper player (maybe a big?) in a couple of years
I'm bitter.

I would give Hauser 3-4 years, 11-12M a year. That's reasonable.

I do think in the open market he could nab 14-15M though, sort of like G-Will and accounting for the rising cap.

I still think they will have to let go of 2 of Hauser/Tillman/Kornet so if they extend Hauser, then we either need to hope Queta can immediately contribute or miraculously add a ring-chasing big. Or draft one but realistically even a draft one won't contribute much in 2025.

I see Hauser as a critical piece, especially with the volume of 3's that we shoot. Celtics should aim to extend.  Most games we played excellent ball with him on the floor.  He's an above average defender.  Even if he has an off shooting night his mere presence creates space for others.

Keep.  4 years, 48 mil is fine with me.  I thought he was good for most of the playoffs.  Even if the games he wasn't shooting well he was contributing in other ways.

Curious what this pick of Scheierman means for Hauser? Seems like they are kind of similar, and I think I read if the C?s kept the pick it will effectively cost them something like $9M this upcoming season.

Hauser was pretty much our 7th man (swappable with Pritchard) all season. I think his skill set is important and he needs to return. His shooting and under-appreciated defense.

I?d rather let guys like Oshae and Svi go. Tillman would be nice as he can eat minutes throughout the course of a long season, but they still probably want to find a big to fill the slot between KP/Horford and Kornet/Tillman. Walsh should see some minutes too.

Assuming Scheierman stays, I think Pritchard is the player most likely affected, with Springer and Scheierman able to compete for his minutes.

Also, Scheierman doesn?t really cost $9 million.  He costs about $2 million more than a vet minimum free agent ? we have to fill the roster spot somehow.

Sam is going to get extended this off season then flipped in 2025 for a first-round pick.

Pritchard, not Hauser.  There aren?t many solid bigs who make the minimum, and that?s all Hauser can bring back.  There are bigs who make less than $6.6 million tho.

Schierman is a rookie on a championship team. he wont find minutes this year, and if you are looking to repeat you don't replace what you know with a rookie.

it might be a move to replace hauser in the future though. its like saying how Julian Edelman pick meant for welker. eventually he replaced him, but we talking years of development.

they probably will extend hauser, see how the development of Schierman goes. maybe he ends up a similar player in a year or two and boston decides to save the tax by going with the younger player over hauser

I understand that there are limits to how big a raise a player can get via an extension.  It has been reported that White is eligible for up to four years and $127 million this summer, if the mechanism is an extension, for example.  But would Hauser be considered an extension if they don't pick up next season team option?  Can they decline the option, he becomes a UFA on July 1 (I believe), and then they can sign him for as much as they want (no limitation as there would be with an extension)?

Hollinger said that Hauser would be "extension eligible".  But if it is actually an extension, would there be a limit on how big a raise he could get?  I guess it they pick up the team option, then they could extend him, but I am trying to understand if there would be limits on the extension.
