@Roy, why is this so?
Quote
Won't be able to aggregate two or more players in trade
It eliminates Phantom?s idea of Springer + Pritchard

Only if their salaries need to be combined to make the matching salaries work from what I understand.

Also, it I understand it doesn't eliminate the potential of 3 way trades, but that complicates things.

How come Christian Wood only makes 3mil?

Springer for Wood?

Wood has a lazy/selfish reputation tho, right? Might be a deal breaker right there.

Gonna be hard to find someone without warts.

Springer and Pritchard seem like the only tradeable assets at this point in time.  I would not trade Pritchard unless one of two things happen (or both I guess are possible):

    1.  We sign a vet PG/Combo G that is better than Pritchard
    2.  Springer emerges and beats out Pritchard

Pritchard's limitations were exposed by DAL.  He could not be counted on to cover Luka or Kyrie and pretty much stopped making shots, outside of the last 3 seconds of the half.  But overall, Pritchard had a very solid season.  I have a feeling that we don't trade Pritchard in the off season.  Maybe at the trade deadline and only after Springer and/or some vet FA guard have clearly established that they can fill the role better than Pritchard.

As to Springer, I doubt he has much trade value, even with a first attached.  I would trade him for someone like Wood, as was suggested above, rather have a big prospect than a guard prospect, but it seems unlikely.

I?ve felt for a bit that Pritchard would be moved and Springer kept, with a vet free agent PG also joining.  I don?t have many great ideas on who we?d get for Pritchard, and honestly my #1 idea is draft consideration.  It?s not a great draft, but there are some interesting bigs who could go in the early 20s, so perhaps there is a trade partner there.  Yves Missi and Kel?el Ware are my two favorites, but there are some other choices too.  (The dream option is Topic falling far enough that we could move up for him, but that?s just a dream).

In terms of players, Mark Williams could make some sense as a big who?s under an affordable contract for a couple of years, but he doesn?t offer that much savings relative to Pritchard, and he seems like the worse player by a fair margin.  I think Pritchard to the Hornets wouldn?t be a crazy fit that direction, however.

Who are your ideas for the vet PG?
Depends on how washed you're thinking, but some potential names available this free agency that are somewhat reasonable (e.g. not James Harden) and have 'name recognition' include Kyle Lowry, Patty Mills, and Spencer Dinwiddie. Also Kris Dunn? I'm not seeing much in the way of guys who are legitimate upgrades on the court, though.

I don?t think we?d get anyone better than Pritchard in this scenario ? my idea wasn?t about being an upgrade to him, but rather an upgrade to Springer as a third PG (or at least someone for him to compete with) and someone who saves the team many millions in tax payments compared to Pritchard, while the trade helps fill a different hole.  I like Pritchard, but as the finals showed he?s a luxury item for regular season depth.

I was wondering when reading the Jordan Walsh thread possibly cracking the rotation if replacing Pritchard is most likely option for him getting into the rotation.

J Walsh, Hauser and Horford the main bench pieces. With one of Jrue / D White on the court at all times at PG. Go bigger defensively. Always have a big defensive PG. Big defensive wing in J Walsh. Walsh is athletic enough to cover guards defensively.

I don't want to trade Payton.  I think he improved a lot.  He was fine in the playoffs until the finals, where he struggled; yet made those big buzzer shots!!.

He needs to keep working on developing his short game like Tj McConnell.  He is on a very friendly deal. I seriously doubt he gets traded.

Do you keep Springer and Pritchard and trade White?  There are stories out there saying he could opt to not sign an extension and instead see what he can do in Free Agency next year?

I suppose it would depend on what we traded him for, but White is light years better than Pritchard and Springer.

Yeah, if White wants to walk, he walks, but in the meantime you try to win another title with him.  I do think he extends with the Celtics, however, so it should be moot.

How come Christian Wood only makes 3mil?

Because the idea of Christian Wood on this board has always been much better than the actual player.

An injury to D White or Jrue would have made PP need heavy minutes (and possibly meant Springer)

It really sucks that we can't aggregate, because Quetta, Springer plus a 2nd round pick for a really good vet PG is what we need.

We do? We have three starting level point guards, and we don't even run the offense through them?

Considering the salary woes our team will soon face, Pritchard seems pretty valuable. Next year he makes 6.7 million, and that slowly increases each year until it peaks at 8.3 million 4 seasons later in 27/28.

As the cap continues to increase, that deal will be a STEAL for the level of player Pritchard is off the bench. If we gut the team for minimums long term, sure. I just wouldn't expect much production out of that level of player.

If he asks out for a bigger opportunity at some point, you explore that. If not, let the contract ride.

If Springer took a big step forward, he will almost immediately be due a raise that we most likely wouldn't give him. If he is terrible we could give him less than Pritchard, but why not just have Pritchard at that point?

Completely agree, TP. Pitchard also performs under pressure and he hit some really big shots in the playoffs. His contract is a steal for the Celtics.  Not a player I?d trade.

Someone may come available.

If White doesn't sign his extension, I could see the team moving him. Maybe for a big guy like Jarett Allen.
