Dear Kyrie,

I'm sorry, I no longer have any disdain for you. It's not you. It's me.

No, wait, it is you. A few years ago, you became the ultimate Celtics villain. You turned your back on the team after telling us that you wanted to be here. You committed treason. You made a point of insulting the team, the fans and the parquet when you wiped your foot on Lucky. And since then, you've pretty much been hated in Boston, deservedly so. And that hatred gave you power.

But after this season and series, it's hard to feel anything but sorry for you. Don't get me wrong, I still can't stand you. But you've given up. You've surrendered. It began in 2022, when you called it in for the final game in the first round of the playoffs, so that you didn't have to go back to Boston. You lost 12 games in a row to us before finally winning one in Dallas, in that game where our team was so busy laughing at you that they forgot to guard you. Our bad.

And then I see what you did in Boston in the finals. The city simply owned you. You shot 34% from the field and 18% from 3. I mean, this was worse than jumping the shark. You became Roger Goodell, after the Patriots stormed back from 28-3. You're every WWE heel after the face finally shuts them down in Wrestlemania. You're William Zabka at the end of every movie in the eighties.

So Kyrie, I release you. You'll always be a villain in Boston, but I just can't scorn you the way that I once did, because it's hard to be angry at someone that you just don't care about. Have a nice life.

Yours truly,
Mike

Who do we hate more for leaving, or defecting Boston, I should say?

Ray Allen or Kyrie Irving?

Ray helped bring us a championship and for the most part was a complete professional during his time here.

Kyrie failed to elevate this team - even finishing worse with him playing in the playoffs - and was a cancer in his second and final year, let alone all the crap that happened after he left. Easy choice.

I dislike Kyrie more. Ray didn't promise to stay and then renege, and Ray didn't stomp on Lucky. And Ray helped win a title.

We've defeated him. It's pretty obvious now. 1-14 since he stomped on Lucky, and really the C's have been owning him since 2021. Yes he beat us in 2021 but that was with the superteam Nets against our 2021 squad which now looks laughable outside of the Jays + Smart that year.

We swept him in the 2022 playoffs and then beat him in 5 in this year's Finals.

He's also a mental case at TD Garden. The chants, booing and heckling clearly gets to him.

And my personal opinion, at the end when he was shaking the hands of Celtics players and hugging some with 2 mins to go before the Game 5 win, I think he also did that as "acceptance". Like a "yeah you guys and the fanbase got me, so I guess I got to soften the blow and make as much peace as I can". Deep down he knows this will continue but I think now for him it's about managing the situation. I do think going forward the chants/booing will be there but not as much as this round.

Ray and Kyrie are both like ex-girlfriends.

Ray was the girlfriend you spent several years with, had some great times with, but the relationship got a little stale, and she decided to leave before you were ready for the breakup.  Looking back on it now, you're still not happy with the way it ended, but no hard feelings, you can see where they were coming from.  You moved on, and you're glad to hear they're doing good.  Could even catch up over coffee sometime.

Kyrie was the girlfriend who was super hot but had a ton of flaws you overlooked because of the hotness and your desire to be in a relationship.  In the beginning of the relationship she seemed committed, but after a very brief honeymoon period, the relationship was just a disaster filled with jealousy, lying, cheating, empty promises, manipulation, emotional abuse, etc.  She ends up leaving you for the guy that she always claimed was "just a friend" and yet still talks trash about you like it was your fault things didn't work it and taking no responsibility for the failed relationship.  You want nothing to do with her, would never take her back, but can't help but smile when you hear the guy she cheated on you with cheated on her, or you hear she got arrested for a DUI, or that she got fired for throwing a tantrum at work, etc.  And if you do happen to hear she's doing good, you first thought is "just a matter of time before she ruins this too."

That's kinda how I view Ray and Kyrie situations.

200% Kyrie. As much as I had a problem with Ray when he left, he didn't ever try to rub it in our faces like Kyrie has with stomping on Lucky or some of his comments about Boston. And then Ray showed up in Celtics gear for game 5, which is something I can never see Kyrie doing.

Ray is still a Celtic, even though we had a rough patch. Kyrie, on the other hand, was never truly a Celtic (and almost seems proud of that fact).
I'm bitter.

I got over Cryrie a few weeks after he left. No point continuing to be mad at him, it was only affecting me, he doesn't know was mad at him. He's just an opposition player to me these days

The great thing is, he *does* know.  The fans are in his head.

A guy like Draymond Green thrives off the boos and the criticism.  Kyrie can't handle it.

Don't forget "incense-burning" which he did before fans arrived to the Garden a few years ago-- walking around the player benches with smoke rising up.

Definitely true...he definitely knows he left us at the altar so there may be some Freudian guilt?

I meant that he didn't know that I personally hated him...though if I had been at the Garden whenever he came as an opposition player he would, I would find a way to make myself known, even if it meant throwing grapes at him  ;D

I honestly don?t care that he left. By the time the season was over, did anyone want him to stay?
