Celtics team option contract decisions looming by 5 p.m. today. All these contracts outside of Queta's would be non-guaranteed for now:

Amari Williams
Neemias Queta
Max Shulga
Jordan Walsh
Dalano Banton

Get rid of Shulga and Banton

Yes, although there's not necessarily a need to waive them yet if their contracts are completely non-guaranteed even after picking up the options.

They will be, do not worry.  That said, their contracts are non-guaranteed, so they will not be declined today.  As long as they are released before opening night they cost the Celtics nothing.  Same is true of Williams.  Walsh guarantees on July 20th.

Williams
Banton
Shugla

Get rid of all three.

Mitchell gets one of the 2 way deals. Use the other two on guys you signed for summer league.

I would keep Williams. NBA bigs often take years to develop, and he?s shown a couple skills that could be useful as a backup.

I really thought last year was the gap year. Seems we were a year early on that.

2026-27 feels like a reset totally. Finances, draft picks, getting younger.

Would be really hard to put that team (Portland deal) on the floor in Tatum's prime. Literally would be no one around him to help.

Queta and Banton picked up. No idea why they are keeping Banton.

Because he's non-guaranteed.

So is Amari Williams a free agent now?

Adam Himmelsbach: According to a league source, the Celtics are exercising the team options of Neemias Queta, Jordan Walsh and Dalano Banton. Banton remains on a non-guaranteed deal.

Per source, the Celtics are declining options of Amari Williams & Max Shulga, but they could still have opps w/Cs.

Does that mean they are going to offer new two-way contracts to Amari and Shulga? Or maybe lesser deals with the G-League team?

I'm disappointed we didn't get a deal with Queta. Generally these guys who haven't made a fortune yet and possibly never expected to reach "stardom" are easy to pursuade to take a friendly deal. Now a lot of uncertainty for next summer.

He was pretty dominate in the G-league too.

He should be a $20-25mil a year player after next season.

Potentially a restricted free agent, if a qualifying offer is extended.  Both are also eligible to return as 2-way contracts.

Would have been nice, but it was either give Queta a new deal this year with a big increase and not have the MLE, or proceed ahead as is.  They can still negotiate an extension this summer that kicks in next year, while keeping the salary this year the same.
