From the league: the Celtics' home game versus Philadelphia on Sunday, March 1st has been moved from 6 pm to 8 and will now be televised by NBC

per Steve Bulpett

Is that the date and time Jayson Tatum will be making his debut? He did say he wants to come back near his bday and at home.

That would be a great birthday gift for me if he comes back March 1 lol

Tatum's birthday is March 3, and there is also a game March 4. I do think it'll be one of those dates (March 1, 4 or 6)

The 40-20 rule can still be in play for the Celtics. Currently on thin ice though at 19 losses. But at 35-wins.

Will the Celtics contend for a championship this season?

I don't think so, even if Tatum returns close to his pre-injury form.  I could see the C's having a solid chance to get to the finals but I don't think they have enough top-end talent to win it all.  Reasons:
- Q is too limited offensively and Vuc/Garza too limited defensively.
- no real PF other than Tatum.
- White's regression this year to what he was like when we first traded for him
- not enough offensive firepower. C's don't have enough scoring (or offensive diversity) if the team is not hitting 3's..

prior to Simons being traded.  let's see how they hold up without him and more relevantly, let's see how they hold up in the playoffs against teams that play good defense.   This team still relies too much on 3's and when they're cold, they really struggle because there's no diversity in the scoring.  that may change a bit now that they have Vuc but that remains to be seen

Yes - I hope the addition of Vuc will diversify scoring, meaning less reliance on the three. Vuc shoots threes but his low post scoring and passing should be his main focus on offense. Maybe JT comes back a little less focused on his ISO step backs. Also important to point out that JB is shooting about 5 more attempts per game than last season but just about the same in terms of 3PA.  So 5 more twos, drives per game.

Pritchard and Sam should keep shooting threes.

I don't think JT will return close to his top form this season, particularly in terms of chemistry.  But if he does and this team gels, I think our upside is as high as any team in the league, including OKC.

People forget that last year against the Knicks that we got nothing from KP and Jrue and JB were injured.  This year's squad is better than what we showed in the playoffs.

This is true.  It seemed like the team was gutted when we lost Porzingis, then Holiday, then Horford; some were even bemoaning losing Kornet, but it turns out, losing them was not as bad as it seemed.  Now with Vucevic in the Horford role, once we get Tatum back, I see this team as right there with anyone, certainly in the East.  Some other teams have gotten better, others got worse, it is still kind of TBD where BOS will be when/if Tatum returns.

I am not worried about chemistry but I am worried about Tatum.  He is going to have to make adjustments, not because of new team roles, but trying to regain his form on the fly.  Once the competitive juices start flowing, he is going to revert to doing what he used to be able to do.  And he may not be able to right away.  It may take time.  And that may mess with his confidence.  He may also be perfectly fine, pick right up where he left off after a short break-in period.

The team/players will welcome Tatum back, I have no doubt of that.

We won?t know till he?s on the floor competing. But the team that started last year was a championship favorite. I think the current team, with a ready Tatum is as good as last years.  Even if JT isn?t 100% and if chemistry takes longer to develop than time allows, the next couple of years look very positive.

This little spot and highlight at the All Star Game and whatever they?re doing with this mini documentary/video just confirms the plan to come back this year, right? I mean, it seemed like a virtual certainty at this point already, but feels pretty imminent now.

Yeah it seems like it. NBC apparently I guess has also been following him a bit in recent months observing his recovery and taking clips from it. It seems very likely to me he's coming back March 1, 4 or 6.

I'll also add, I think we didn't hear much about Tatum or him posting stuff on social media for a good chunk of January, and someone in radio (I think Brian Robb) made a good point that he was probably hitting milestones and doing more activities behind closed doors to ramp up. It would fit the timeline very well. When Shams reported last week that Tatum was doing 5 on 5 work, I don't think he started that day it was probably already ongoing.

Yeh.  if the hype machine has a hold of it, there's no stopping it now.  It definitely will add some juice to the East.

I still find it funny that the narrative of that Game 4 vs NY is that it would have gone to the Celtics if JT didn't go down.  He was having a big game, but the Knicks had taken over and sure seemed like they were poised to win.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. -- Beverly Hills police on Saturday night shut down a brand event hosted by Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown, with the city saying the gathering lacked a permit. However, on Sunday, Brown disputed that characterization, calling a statement released by the city "completely false" while noting that hundreds of thousands of dollars of investment in the event were wasted.

"I'm offended by Beverly Hills by the statement they put out, like we applied for something and didn't get it, and we did it anyway [and] we were insubordinate," Brown said after the NBA All-Star Game at Intuit Dome, where he made his first appearance as an All-Star starter. "I know how to follow the rules. I'm smart enough to follow the guidelines. It just seemed like somebody didn't want whatever we had going on to go on because out of everybody that was doing something, it seemed like I was the only one that gets shut down."

Earlier Sunday, the City of Beverly Hills released a statement to The Boston Globe, saying the city had rejected a permit for the event.

"On Saturday, February 14, the Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) responded to an event taking place at a private residence in the Trousdale neighborhood of the City. An event permit had been applied for and denied by the City due to previous violations associated with events at the address," the statement read.

"Despite the fact that the permit was denied, organizers still chose to proceed with inviting hundreds of guests knowing that it was not allowed to occur. BHPD responded and shut down the unpermitted event."

Brown posted a video of his conversation with a Beverly Hills police officer on his social media in which he sought answers and later said, "I feel like we're being targeted."

After Sunday's game, Brown, who has a sponsorship with Oakley and who said the event was hosted at Oakley founder Jim Jannard's house, disputed the city's account.

"That was not true," Brown said. "We didn't need a permit because the owner of the house, that was his space. We were family friends. He opened up the festivities to us so we didn't have to. We never applied for one. ... I didn't have to pay for the house or anything. They just opened it up. I had to pay for the build-out, but it was hundreds of thousands of dollars wasted for an event that was supposed to be positive."

Brown was asked whether he felt the shutdown was racially motivated.

"All I'm going to say is that everybody else that did something in activation, [there] seemed to be no issues," Brown said. "It was 7 p.m. It wasn't 10 p.m., it wasn't 11 p.m., it wasn't [midnight]. [It was] 7 p.m. ... We're doing a panel. We're doing stuff that's positive. There was nobody that was inconvenienced. [We weren't] blocking traffic. It's All-Star Weekend, it's Saturday night and it's 7 p.m. -- what are we talking about?"

The event promoted Brown's performance brand, 741.

"It was hundreds of thousands of dollars lost down the toilet," he said. "A lot of work that got put into this. A lot of effort got put into this, so I'm more offended for my team. They did a lot of work to do an activation for my brand, 741. We partnered with Oakley.

"So, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth here in L.A. for the All-Star Weekend. It's super distracting for y'all to even have to ask me questions about this, especially. We should be here talking about basketball, but yesterday wasn't great."

In a later social media post in which he tagged the Beverly Hills police, Brown specified, "300k down the drain."

Brown also said Jannard was considering filing a lawsuit against Beverly Hills.

"The owner seemed like he was pretty upset," Brown said. "He wants to file a lawsuit because it's his house. They've done multiple events there, and there's never been an issue. He's done four or five events even that week, he said, and it was never an issue."
