Micheal Scotto: The Boston Celtics will exercise the third-year $2.74 million team option on Baylor Scheierman for the 2026-27 season, league sources told @hoopshype . Scheierman was the 30th pick of the 2024 NBA Draft.

Why?

I would not have, but I did feel that is why he was getting a few minutes the past couple of games.

That said, the difference between his option and the vet minimum is all of $500k next year, and they will still have 3-4 spots to fill.  One will hopefully be someone with the big TPE, one will be a
1st round pick, and likely two will be vet min deals.  If Scheierman is taking up the third vet min slot with a salary a few hundred thousand more, I will just shrug.  It is unlikely to prevent us from making a larger move if we are spending an extra $500k on the 13th or 14th roster spot.

This is what I thought too...the opportunity cost of not signing him is just not big enough to move our needle. I'm assuming Brad and his team of nerds have run the numbers and determined there's no scenario where we would have been $2.74m under the luxury tax, first apron or any other apron where Scheierman would have been the one to push us over

I imagine he would be eligible to trade next offseason and season so my hope is just to have salary filler in a potential trade. However that feels like wishful thinking.

I was surprised when I saw this.  I hope he is doing more in practice than he has been doing in games.  I see him as being a little too slow.  Just doesn't seem to have the foot speed to keep up with the game at his position.

Like others have said, as the 14th or 15th guy on the roster, I will trust that the decision makers see some remaining unfulfilled ceiling and they want to give him another season.  I am surprised, I am not seeing it, but so be it.

Walsh has a Jan 10 guarantee deadline for the second half his salary this season and the team still has an option for next (about $2.4M).  This may not bode well for Walsh.

this is what I was thinking - trade chip for the offseason where his salary may be what's needed to be added to a deal to get a better player.  there may also be something happening in practice we're not seeing that justifies optimism in his improvement.

agreed.  I think the lack of playing time so far strongly suggests he's not going to be here at the end of the season.  probably shipped out with Simons in whatever deal Brad puts together at the trade deadline if he's kept past 1/10 or Brad's got nothing going for him, he's quite probably cut and replaced with a vet min player that may have something more to contribute

Lots happened since 10/31.  In less than two weeks JW went from last guy to key contributor.   As of today that option looks secure.

hopefully this is what we see from him going forward and it's not just a flash in the pan.  would love nothing better than to eat my words regarding his prospects for becoming a rotation player.  At the moment, he's gone from 4th in the 'hustle' position behind Minott, Hugo, Baylor to probably only trailing Minott now.  Baylor's looking like the one as the trade filler now for the inevitable Simons trade.

White and PP need to get going and be more consistent. Obviously they don't have to make every shot and shooting slumps happen, but both guys have been maddeningly inconsistent to start the year and shooting poorly, even on open looks. Jaylen is doing his part and the bench has been pretty good this year and are fighting. Even Simons has given them a spark on offense some games. But White and PP need to contribute more.

have to admit that they were the two players on the team I had the least concern about delivering more in Tatum's absence.  I've been very wrong on that.

I think almost everyone is in that same boat.  Especially Derrick.

Brown said his team didn?t have the right effort for the majority of the game? and especially noticed the problem late in the first half and at the end of the third quarter. After tying the score at 51 with 3:23 left in the second quarter, the Celtics closed the half by giving up an 11-2 run. Brown scored on what should have been a successful 2-for-1 situation with 31 seconds before halftime, but a turnover by Josh Minott with seven seconds remaining allowed Brooklyn (3-12) to score the final four points of the second quarter.

Regardless if you?re making or missing shots, regardless of anything, we?ve just got to come out and play with great energy, great enthusiasm for the game, Brown said. Like, want to win. It just didn?t seem like that was the case tonight.

At the end of the day, we?ve all got a job to do, Brown said. We?re all getting paid to do what we love to do. Come ready to play basketball, or you?re doing a disservice. So everybody?s got to come here and be ready to do their job and have great energy, enthusiasm and want to win. That?s what it?s about at the end of day: Celtic basketball.

pritchard may have turned the corner and returned to his career shooting ability. in the past 5 games he is shooting 45% on 3 pointers. hopefully this continues.
