BTW, I would expect a trade this weekend.  Seems to be the time they routinely make deals.

Ayton will be a Laker.

Absolutely nobody would take on Ayton for a year? They couldn?t even salary dump him? That sounds hard to believe.

A lot of stuff going the Lakers way right before and after they sell for $10B, total coincidence I?m sure.

Least shocking development in NBA history. The league is rigged to make the Lakers competitive.

Lol - they can have Ayton. Lebron will be out on that roster by game 6 of the regular season.

Expected but deeply nauseating nonetheless.

Wait so what can Boston offer Horford, and what about GSW?

We can offer Horford the max. We won?t, but we can.  Our actual limit is the team?s budgetary goals (under second apron or under tax).

Golden State is limited to $5.7 million in year one.

TP, thanks. So Boston can't give him 5-6M? Idk, I'd be fine just dumping Niang tbh

Sorry, I meant we could offer him up to the max.  In other words, it is the team?s budget that is the issue, and not any other limitations from the CBA.  And also Horford?s desire to stay here in what may not be a competitive year vs. trying out the Warriors.

Would absolutely love to see us get off Niang's contract ASAP. Horford situation notwithstanding.

At worst, couldnt the C's waive JD, stretch Niang, resign Al and still be under the cap?

I guess they could. But I don't think they feel an urgency where they'd need to get under the cap ASAP. They have the whole year.

I mostly just want Niang gone because he's a stiff.

Did not know this until last night that Bernard King was going be a Celtic until Washington offer him more money

https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=oTINZw1qYjM&t=2369

I had this interview bookmarked but I had not watched it yet. Anyway, 39min in, King tells Max that Washington offered twice as much money and that is why he went there.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/hHocuySmCKI

Quote
"Bird and I never once said a word to one another on the court. Never in the entire 10-year period that we played against each other. But here's something you don't know... After I come back from my injury, I came back for six games."

"I averaged 22 points a game. I established that I can still play and I'm healthy. So now I'm a free agent and I hired Bob Wolfe. You know, in Boston, he was supposed to be Larry Bird's attorney, right? But he was the best that there was."

"I got a call from Bob and he said, Bernard, the Celtics are interested in signing you. As I get on the plane, I fly to Boston. I can't believe I'm going to Boston, right? So I get on the plane, I fly to Boston and I meet with Red Auerbach, K.C. Jones, and I link home."

"And Red is sitting there smoking his cigar and he says to me, Bernard, why do you want to play for the Celtics? You know, we have a pretty good small forward here. Alluding to Bird without saying his name. And I said, I want to win the championship. That was the end of the meeting."

"By the time I got back to Bob Wolfe's office, they made an offer. And I knew I would not have been there in that office with those guys if Bird didn't give his blessing. Wow. In the interim, while I was meeting with the Celtics, the Washington Bullets called and they were interested in signing me. So I didn't say yes."

"I got on a plane and flew to Washington because they wanted to see me work out. Had a pair of sneakers shipped there and I worked out for them. And the offer was double what Boston offered. So I had to take it."

"You know, it was a different era then. You know, we didn't make the kind of money the guys are making today. And I'll never forget this, the first game of that season, we played the Celtics. And Bird, remember, we never talked in 10 years. Bird called me and he said, you cost me a championship..."

Quote
"The first game of that season ('87-88), we played the Celtics and Bird. Remember, we never talked in 10 years, and Bird said, 'You costed me a championship.' Yeah, that's what he said to me," the 6'7 forward said. "We're competitors? and when you're a competitor, you're gonna go to any team where you're gonna start. I wasn't going to Boston to back up Bird. My mindset was not that."

The former Boston Celtics star was talking on FS1 show ?Speak? about LeBron James labeling Kevin Durant as the ?most equipped? scorer in NBA history.

Pierce didn?t like that and decided to toot his own horn. ?I was probably the best pure scorer ever in the history of the NBA,? Pierce said. ?I was pretty equipped. I need to be in this conversation. 3-point contest champ, all of that, post-ups. I must have been one of the most equipped.?
