Don't think JB is going anywhere. Brad said last night it was basically JT, JB, White and PP as the core guys moving forward.

I think Niang needs to be dumped as soon as possible so they can resign Kornet and Al. I would like to keep Hauser over him.
i agree on dumping niang, but i dont see a rush in doing so. his salary doesn't affect the celtics really until the end of the season, which functionally means the trade deadline. i think stevens will package him in a trade, but we shall see.

I just hate him. He is not good. He is dirty. He is out of shape and to me adds nothing to this team.
Was there a particular event that shaped this hatred towards him? I don't know anything about him to be honest.

He was on the bench and grabbed JB's knee while JB was running back in transition.

I think we should keep Niang just so he won't be the winningest basketball player over the last 6 years as he is currently the winningest player over the prior 5 years with 257 wins.  Tatum is 2nd at 250 (in 28 less games than Niang). Bridges, Jokic, and Holiday round out top 5. White and Pritchard are 6 and 7 with Brown at 11.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I don't think Niang is the worst player in the world.  Last season, split between CLE and ATL, he shot over 40% from 3 on limited attempts.  We are so up against tax and apron limits that even his $8M'ish is a lot so I would not be surprised to see him gone, but I think Simons is the more likely one to go.

I am probably (ok for sure I am) biased because I am an Iowa State grad and Niang played for the cyclones in college.   He was a super fun guy to root for in college.  He plays a completely old man, no athleticism game.  Probably incredibly annoying to the teams he plays against.  He isn't in great NBA shape, he is slow, he is isn't afraid to jaw with you.

I never saw the thing that happened with him and Jaylen.   But I don't think Niang will be a problem or an issue if he isn't traded.  He might help a bit at the backup 4 for minutes.   After he hits a few 3s, and catches people off guard with his good passing fans might come around.   Probably not, but....he was born in Lawrence Mass.

Bobby Krivistky: Asked about Joe Mazzulla?s contract, Brad Stevens stated Celtics desire to have him here for a long time. Joe & I, first of all, keep any of those discussions in house. But we?ve got Joe under contract for multiple years right now, & so we certainly want Joe to be around here for a long time. via Bluesky

I think if only one of the two finish the season on the Celtics, its more likely to be Simons. Just because dumping 8 million of Niang is a very easy trade to make, there are a lot more teams that can absorb that money outright. Its harder to find teams that have 27 million to devote to a point guard.

I?ll repeat it over and over and over, we need to regain our flexibility, Stevens said. We need to maximize assets in return, and we need to regain some flexibility here. And whatever that means from a final cost standpoint is what it means. But I think the biggest thing is, as you look at the rest of the team and what we?re trying to do, there is no question our priorities would be to bring Al and Luke back. Those guys are huge parts of this organization. They?re going to have, I?m sure, plenty of options all over the place, and that?s well-deserved, but I think that would be a priority. At the same time, I don?t want to put pressure on them. It?s their call ultimately. But, yeah, we would love to have those guys back.via New York Times

People thought Mazzulla was in his 2nd year of the extension and this next one is his last (a contract year). I thought so too. But I actually wonder if maybe in reality, Mazzulla played out the 2024-2025 season on an interim deal (the "current one") and his extension kicked in this past season. Which in that case, means he's going on to his 2nd year of the deal and that is technically "multiple years on the contract".

One of the biggest mistakes Brad has made, keeping Joe in house.

The Ringer's Zach Lowe reported that the Toronto Raptors offered a trade package around the No. 9 pick in this week's draft.

?There were reports that the Raptors offered the No. 9 pick for Derrick White,? Lowe said on his podcast Thursday. ?I?m told that?s true but that it happened a month and a half ago after Jayson Tatum got hurt and Boston laughed at that offer and said we need way more than No. 9 for Derrick White.?

Quote
After multiple days of reports that the Boston Celtics were willing to listen to trade offers on Jaylen Brown and Derrick White, vice president Mike Zarren went on record to state that the team was never close to a deal involving either player.

?Those two guys are really, really great NBA players, and there hasn?t been anything close to serious about trading them,? Zarren said. ?I?m not sure where all this reporting came from but those guys are key parts of our team, and we?re lucky to have them here.?

The globalization of the NBA is no more apparent than this year's Celtic's draft;  Max born in the Ukraine moved to Spain to develop, Willaims born and raised in England, and Gonzalez born and raised in Spain.
