Avdija got 4 years $55mil. Insane. Not even starter material. Not even a good bench player.

That is a good deal. Avdija is a good wing defender with a developing offensive game and is only 22. Wizards locking up a win young player with potential to improve. Honestly think the player sold himself short. If he has a good year, he could have gotten like $20 mil per for his age.

Do you mean three point shots, or more big men do deal with not getting boxed out?

I know everyone's situation is different, but seeing some of these contract extensions makes me feel even better about Pritchard's new deal

I thought Pritchard's deal was in line with a high-end backup PG.  So, I thought it looked a bit generous based upon Pritchard's track record, but was something that he had a reasonable shot at earning.

With some of these recent extensions, it's looking like $8 million to $11 million is the new going rate for young, back of the rotation players.  So, Pritchard's deal no longer looks generous, it looks like market value, or even a bit below.

Good for Crash.  I always liked Aaron.  Glad he found a home.  It would have been nice to have him and PP on our bench this year but oh well.

Agree

So this is where I am with Avdija.

I agree, his defense is strong. However, his abysmal. He is a bad shooter (30% on 4.5 threes pe game). He is an inefficient scorer (TS% of 53% last year and career). They thought he could play some point-forward as opposde to being a scorer so they gave him more ball-handling and passing responsibilities. Again, he couldn't do it. His turnovers jumped up. He was too error prone to be a ball-handler. He wasn't creating enough. He wasn't scoring. And he was making too many mistakes. Overall, his offensive game is abysmal. Absoutely abysmal.

A player with strong defense whose offense is that bad just isn't worth an MLE level contract.

He is young and he can improve. Great. Make him show that improvement, then pay him. Make him earn the contract. Don't just pay him and hope that it works out especially given how poor his development has been over the first three years of his NBA career.

That is kind of surprising. I am not sure where he fits in the rotation. Bruce Brown looks to be the starting SG and Buddy Hield the 6th man / backup SF. Then have Jarrace Walker their lotto pick as a long term PF. It looks like Obi Toppin has beaten out Nesmith for the rest of the minutes at PF and will be starting there while Jarace Walker gets up to speed.

So where does Nesmith fit in? Where does he get minutes?

Is the idea that he replaces Buddy Hield in the near future. His contract expires at the end of the year. Maybe they intend on letting him walk at the end of the season and are intent on making Nesmith their long term backup SF.

On the plus side, they say Nesmith has been playing very well in training camp. If he finally has that outside shot down, he is a legit rotation player in this league. A good rotation player. And well worth $11mil per. That is still somewhat of an unknown (level of development) but they Indy are very happy with what he did in the offseason and how well he is playing in camp.

I saw Pritchard's deal as being eqiuvalent to a middle of the pack backup PG. I would expect a high end bench player to be getting the MLE or close to it. Pritchard is well below that rate.

So, I see Pritchard's contract as (1) fair value for an average backup PG (2) with zero money added for potential. Which is unusual for a young player. I see Nesmith as getting some of that pay for improvement. Deni as well. Pritchard did not.

Pritchard is the 3rd string PG and he got paid like a 2.5 string PG.  A lot of these other deals are for the 2nd string player.  All seem to be in line
