At the very least, hopefully Minnesota can take 1, maybe 2 more games and extend that series a little.
If no one gets hurt, is that really better? I mean, isn't it better for them to have over a week off as well instead of 4 days? They'd be more used to playing, but still have plenty of time off to reat.

Maybe, but on the flip side if you have them play more heavy minutes and risk injuries that could also affect things

I mean Lively yesterday was practically ragdolled out there and is dealing with a neck injury now.

I sort of think that "rust" or whatever gets overrated. I don't think NBA players get forget how to play basketball just because they get a week off.

With Luka having a sore knee and Lively with that neck sprain I think you'd mostly like to see the series go longer as a Celtics fan. It probably won't matter too much because the Mavs will still get a fair amount of time off even if the series were to go say 6 (5 days), but more wear and tear is better.

Nice thing about NBA finals for both teams is they are more stretch out. There's 72 hours between every game (except 3&4 which is only 48 hours. Generally I think that makes for better basketball.

celtics actually match up well wtih the mavs which is why they've beat them twice in the regular season. NBA is a game of matchups. its how the wolves can beat Denver but lose to mavs. its how Denver would've demolished the mavs in 4-5 games.

they can throw white/jrue on kyrie. and Brown/tatum on luka. Brown did a very good job defending luka in the regular season.

on the offensive side, i'm not sure who they have to stop Tatum/brown. Brown had his way with Luka during the regular season. this isn't taking into account KP or or other options who can score with White/jrue

Funnily enough the Wolves beat Dallas 3-1 in the regular season...maybe that was prior to the trade deadline?

I think we would have to be favorites and deservedly so, just wouldn't be counting our chickens too soon (assuming both teams make the finals)...people who think it's going to be a walkover might be getting an unpleasant surprise when the games end up much more tightly contested than expected. Especially when our biggest opponents will be ourselves, more so than the Mavs

not saying they are going to be a walkover. you have 2 great stars over there. its the NBA finals.

just think Mavs are a much better matchup than Wolves or Denver would've been. you have to be honest if you could pick one of Denver/wolves/mavs to face in the finals. they would be the one to choose.

The Celtics match up much better with the Mavs than the Wolves.  The biggest concern is, does Boston have the speed to keep up with Irving (particularly White)? Also, given how inconsistent Irving is, I think even if they don't it won't necessarily decide the series. Jrue should be good on Luka and with Jones being the other wing, Brown should be able to help White and Jrue a bit defensively.

Offensively, I don't think the Mavs can guard Tatum.  He is just too good for Washington and too big for Jones.  And they will make both Luka and Irving work on both ends tiring them out

I think Dallas closes it out tonight.  '

I'm actually fine with that.  Rust factor concerns would be offset come June 6th.

I'm not sure if I want to see Dallas close out their series tonight, so both Finals teams have to deal with the same rust factor. Or see Minny extend the series as much as possible, to prevent Dallas from resting as much.

does it really matter? it is out of our hands. we control nothing. sure maybe a 7 game series with 7 OT's in each game may help us....or will it? what would the rest time be for them if it went that deep. i think we only had 2 days off in 2022 after finishing the heat?

would they still be tired after a 7 game series or would rust be better?

There's no question Kyrie and Luka can be killers and are offensively gifted.

But I can't imagine Dallas will play as fast and move the ball around as swiftly as Indiana did. In a way I think a series with Indiana did us a solid, it gave us a little experience against that kind of offense. The Mavs run a lot of isos and pick and rolls, but they are also a lot slower coming up the court and easier to defend individually than Indiana was with all their movement, screens, etc.

If Boston decides to play with pace, the Mavs will be in trouble. The Mavs have a solid defense but it's not the kind that can shut down Boston or even a team like Indiana when the ball is moving. Now that said, if Boston continues to also play iso and settle for 3s, they can make it difficult on themselves and that's my fear. In theory though, Dallas has no one who can stop Tatum IMO. This is Tatum's time for redemption from 2022. Jaylen got his ECF redemption from last year, now Tatum can get his 2022 Finals redemption with a big series and a Finals win over Doncic's squad.

TP. Dallas plays a very slow tempo. I also think Dallas can be had on defense. Mavs do not blow anyone out. They usually have to come from behind and its close in the end.

I just do not see how they guard Boston.
