The Utah Jazz are trading Simone Fonteccio to the Detroit Pistons for a 2024 second-round pick, sources tell ESPN.

[dang] I read the c's were interested.  I thought he would have been a very good addition.  Disappointing

Would of had to be the C's first this year to beat an early second from Detroit. Looks like C's weren't interested at that price.

Is there a significant drop off for rookie contracts between first and second round players?  I don't know but if so it could be Detroit that wasn't interested.

The drop off from pick 30 to 31 can be about $1.4 million in year 1, so arguably very high 2nd rounders are more valuable than pick 30, or certainly the difference lessens.

Also, it would have been Utah who wasn’t interested, since they’re the ones who got the pick from Detroit.

The drop off can, in theory, be that big. but in practice it isn't.

Using actual numbers the #30 pick this year signed for 2.4 million year one, the #32 pick signed for about 1.8 million. That's a difference of 600K. That's not nothing, but the idea that second round picks are suddenly worth a lot more than late firsts is somewhat overblown. Would you rather have the 32nd vs 30th in specific situations due to money savings? Sure. But Utah isn't really one of those teams. 600K isn't going to change much about what they do this summer.

Its more likely Boston just wasn't interested in trading a first to get Fonteccio becasue they didn't view him as some big upgrade.

I think we’re splitting hairs here, honestly, but my primary point is that what Detroit gave was arguably equivalent to us having sent our 1st, and yes, that price for Fontecchio would have been very steep.   My comment about Utah not being interested was to the poster who for some reason thought we would have been trading with Detroit.

Shake Milton has the best name in the NBA (criteria: pickup legend done good) and no one can convince me otherwise.

Bones Hyland gets my vote. It's close though.

+1 Monte is a great backup point guard, part time starter if needed.   Depending on who goes out, good for Minn.
I guess they must think they are a serious contender.

Should nothing materialize, Hayward would be a buyout candidate, giving another team the opportunity to bring him at a much lower salary number. Following Rozier’s departure two weeks ago, league sources suggested that was the most likely outcome. But there is apparently a small market for Hayward. Either way, one league source indicated Wednesday that Hayward’s time with the Hornets is up. “He’s gone,” the source said. – via Charlotte Observer

At this point , he might get injured in a shuffle board match

So which contender could afford him? I know the Cs are prohibited  from signing him even if he’s bought out. Would hate to see him in Miami or NY, or Milwaukee.

If Hayward gets bought out, I think he will go home to Indiana and finish his career there.

Unfortunately we are restricted from signing him because we are over the first apron and cannot sign someone who earned more than the nontaxpayer MLE which is $12.5m (from memory). At $30m+ he was quite a bit over that.

I like Troy Brown. He was good depth on the wing. He had a combo guard and combo forward ahead of him in N Alexander Walker and Kyle Anderson but he offered a good alternative to them. Quality depth lost.

Monte Morris is an upgrade over McLaughlin at backup PG. Not sure it was worth it though. I would be surprised if there wasn't another way to do this deal while keeping Troy Brown. Minnesota now a bit sparse on the wing.

Also, I am not sure Monte Morris is that good of a fit. He doesn't shoot the 3 well. I liked their lineups with N Alexander Walker at PG when they wanted a bigger PG than McLaughlin. I thought they worked well. They already had some versatility there. I am not sure what Monte brings (low mistake, safe set of hands) is all that valuable to them.

Here we go.

Count me in the Troy Brown is just as good as if not better than Fonteccio camp. Waste of a trade.
