Wemby does a bad job of getting easy scoring opportunities for himself. Besides a few cuts & lob passes. I mean more in one-on-one situations.
He lacks strength. He lets himself get pushed around too much & too easily. He gives up position. Instead of catching it at 10-12 feet, he gets pushed out and then even concedes the 15ft range and moves out to 18-20ft range. Then goes into Durant-mode and starts dancing with the ball and ends up taking a step back long J.
It reminds me of a young Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Oscar Robertson said he had to change the way he got Kareem the ball. He was used to wide body centers (Wayne Embry) but Kareem wasn't that. He couldn't play the PnR game as well. Kareem, young Kareem, could get pushed off the block. So Oscar Robertson always tried to get Kareem the ball off of movement. Nothing stagnant. Cutting to a spot for the post up. Give the opponent less time to lean on him and push him out of the spot. Get Kareem touches when moving towards the spot, in between, at 12-14 feet, and let Kareem use his quickness and balance to drive by slower big men.
These are the types of touches I do not see Wemby getting. Not for France and rarely for San Antonio. Everything is either a dunk or a hard contested jump shot. He needs to get some easier short shots and hook shots.
