I don't understand Wemby step back 3s early in the shot clock. Such a bail out for the defense.

I am watching the Serbia vs France friendly (Jul 12). Poor Jokic. He is being used as the Wemby-stopper! Serbia's PF gets Gobert. Jokic is chasing Wemby all over the floor. Not his strength defensively. Closing out hard on Wemby's jump-shot. Too exposed.

Serbia have four NBA guys

G: Micic
G: Bogdanovic (Hawks)
F: N Jovic
C: Jokic

I don't know who their other guys are.

Serbia were playing Micic at PG against France. Bogdanovic alongside him. A slower backcourt. Not much dribble penetration there. Their offense looks bogged down. Too much in front of the defense. Not getting inside the defense.

Team USA in rugby beating Uruguay to advance to the quarter-finals. I didn't know that in rugby, they play 2 games on the first day, then another game on the next day. Seems pretty excessive for such a physical game.

Embiid isn't nearly as good without the NBA refs....

I like the double big lineup for France. I am not sure if I have seen Lessort at center with Wemby at PF but Gobert works well with Wemby.

France looks soft when Wemby is out there by himself. It is usually Batum or Yabusele at PF. Wemby a finesse center. No real muscle / interior defense / rebounding from Yabu & Batum. Wemby is more exposed. He is still doing good work but that double big duo is so imposing physically. A stark difference to when Wemby is out there by himself.

Gobert has looked better for France than Embiid has for Team USA.

I'd love to see Embiid play more like Gobert. Drop the star mentality and dig in defensively & on the boards. Be more opportunistic on offense. You are surrounded by scorers. Concentrate on something else. Stop putting yourself ahead of others all the time.

Jokic is so unassuming as a star. He looks like just one of the guys out there. Not the best darn player in the NBA come home to rule.

He looks less comfortable for Serbia than Denver. More unsure about where his opportunities are going to come from. He is having to work a lot more for scoring opportunities than normal.

Royal Ivey deserves a lot of credit for the coaching job he has done with South Sudan. They play nice basketball. Fast uptempo committed to the running game. Unselfish. Take the first good shot available to them. United. Everyone plays for each other. Everyone plays hard.

I wonder if Royal Ivey will get some looks next time a head coaching gig opens up in the NBA.

Perhaps NBA coaches can find some weaknesses to exploit Jokic with this

Wembenyama reminds me of a young Pau Gasol playing for Spain when Wemby is out there at center by himself. A young big who is another level than every other player on the floor. Both on his team and the other team.

Wemby is less purposeful than Pau though. Pau had a better understanding of what his strengths are and how he should play when he played for the Spanish National Team. Wemby playing more like young Pau of the Memphis Grizzlies than Pau of Spanish National Team.

Nic Batum is impressive. Master of the little things. A connectivity player. Joins the play on both ends and makes everyone else's life easier for him being there.

I think Batum has outplayed Tatum in these warm up games. Tatum seems in two minds of what his role should be thus far. Whether he is the do-it-all role player like Batum or whether he is the super-scorer SF/PF in the Melo mold. And as a result, he is doing neither role well.

Tatum has been disappointing thus far. He was the 2nd best player on the team a few years ago behind Durant. His game is made for International ball although maybe more PF than at SF. He was a matchup nightmare at PF. Like Melo was.

Serbia remind me of the Denver Nuggets when Jamal Murray was injured and before they acquired KCP and A Gordon. That playoff team that was solid in the regular but had no hope in the postseason. They were stuck playing bench guards. Even 3rd string guards one year. Bogdanovic in the MPJ role.

They don't look like a team that should be the medal rounds. Not enough help around Jokic. Too slow & unathletic.

Wemby does a bad job of getting easy scoring opportunities for himself. Besides a few cuts & lob passes. I mean more in one-on-one situations.

He lacks strength. He lets himself get pushed around too much & too easily. He gives up position. Instead of catching it at 10-12 feet, he gets pushed out and then even concedes the 15ft range and moves out to 18-20ft range. Then goes into Durant-mode and starts dancing with the ball and ends up taking a step back long J.

It reminds me of a young Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Oscar Robertson said he had to change the way he got Kareem the ball. He was used to wide body centers (Wayne Embry) but Kareem wasn't that. He couldn't play the PnR game as well. Kareem, young Kareem, could get pushed off the block. So Oscar Robertson always tried to get Kareem the ball off of movement. Nothing stagnant. Cutting to a spot for the post up. Give the opponent less time to lean on him and push him out of the spot. Get Kareem touches when moving towards the spot, in between, at 12-14 feet, and let Kareem use his quickness and balance to drive by slower big men.

These are the types of touches I do not see Wemby getting. Not for France and rarely for San Antonio. Everything is either a dunk or a hard contested jump shot. He needs to get some easier short shots and hook shots.
