a project defensive guard in the 2nd round isn't a terrible pick in a weak draft.  It isn't like you'd expect anything from whoever you picked there. Taking a flyer on a talented guy recovering from a serious medical condition isn't horrible.

Bronny is 19.  Maybe 1 growth spurt left??  If he was 6'4 he'd be a 1st round pick.  I would not fault anyone picking him in the 50s.  Just based off of pedigree alone.

If he was 6’4 sure. But he is basically the same size as Irving and Walker as a defensive first guard. He wouldn’t have even been invited to the combine without his last name. This is just g really an embarrassment for the league. I get a lot of second rounders never amount to anything but they at least succeeed in Europe or college to get picked.

Edit I was thinking about this has there been many a 6’1 defensive stopper? I’m sure there has but only thinking of one off my head Mookie blaylock ( and I wonder if with the amount of switching he would be as successful today)

Bronny James is one of the most intriguing prospects in the 2024 NBA draft class -- likely because selecting him could increase the chances for a team to land his legendary father, LeBron James, in free agency. That name recognition is driving an astonishing number of wagers on the younger James in draft markets.

At FanDuel, James has attracted 30% of the tickets to be selected first overall by the Atlanta Hawks, the most for any player at the sportsbook. BetMGM reports that the USC guard has 36.8% of the bets, well ahead of Alex Sarr (-300), who has the second most at 14%. James was not initially listed in the No. 1 overall market at DraftKings, but now finds himself in the field as of Thursday afternoon.

James has consensus odds of 200-1 to be taken with the draft's first pick -- tied with Purdue's Zach Edey for the longest odds on the board. Those long odds, in addition to the discrepancy in bets to handle, would seem to indicate that a lot of small-money bettors are taking a flier on the wild scenario. James is projected as a late-second-round pick in ESPN's latest mock draft.

Don't expect Bronny James to be rostered in both of the NBA's leagues next season, says his agent, Rich Paul.

In an interview with Bleacher Report's Chris Haynes, Paul said he will not allow his client to sign a two-way contract

This is honestly just getting embarrassing for the league at this point. It would be cool if he turned out to be a good player but he is undersized at 6’1, shot terribly from three in college and was not one of the best 5 players on a lousy college team. The making demands is just weird. He shouldn’t even be in the draft.

Is Lebron going to also demand that he get a min number of minutes?  What GM is going to draft this kid just to get an aging lebron and a huge basket of headaches?

Bronny will only work out for the Lakers and Suns.

I want to give the kid the benefit of the doubt, but it seems like his only interest is riding coattails to get a guaranteed spot in the league.  He doesn't seem to have a lot of interest in going to a spot that is going to do its best to develop him.

I mean, on one hand we get this:

Quote
“Bronny’s [draft] range is wide,” Paul told ESPN. “He’s a really good prospect who has a lot of room for growth. It only takes one team. I don’t care where that team is — it can be No. 1 or 58 — [but] I do care about the plan, the development. The team’s strategy, the opportunity and the financial commitment. That’s why I’m not doing a two-way deal. Every team understands that.” – via ESPN

... followed by this:

Quote
: Bronny James was scheduled for 10 workouts with NBA teams, but he’s declined all of them except two: Lakers and Suns, per @ShamsCharania on @RunItBackFDTV. Phoenix will legitimately be considering Bronny at No. 22 overall. pic.twitter.com/i7GT7NygYf 22

If the goal is development, why not open yourself up to as many possibilities as possible?  That also, in my opinion, includes 2-way contracts.  I think teams frequently try to develop their two-way prospects; look at us with Hauser and Queta.

With situations like this though, I have to wonder who's really calling the shots.

Is this Bronny telling Paul what to do?
Is this Paul telling Bronny what to do?
Is this LeBron telling Bronny and Paul what to do?
Is this LeBron and Paul telling Bronny what to do?
Is this Paul and Bronny (and maybe LeBron) sitting down and equally coming to agreement on the best course of action?

I'm not a Rich Paul fan, so I'm definitely biased in my opinion, and would guess this is primarily coming from him (maybe with some input from LeBron).  But Paul is also very successful (and big part of that is his strong arm tactics).  To get Bronny drafted would be an accomplishment, to get him on an NBA roster next year on a guaranteed, non-two-way contract would be an even bigger accomplishment, and to get him drafted in the 1st round, wow.

All of this noise is what makes me dislike Paul, but if it works, hats off to him.

My guess is that this is more coming from Paul than Bronny though.

Why would Phoenix want another shooting guard?

They already have Bradley Beal, Devin Booker, Grayson Allen. That is three. They have said they want a PG to deal with the issues they had last season. A proper PG who can run an offense. They were non-comittal whether that player would start or come off the bench. Either way, Bronny is not that player. And there is no clear role for him as a bench SG behind those three other SGs. And that is not even including Eric Gordon if they bring him back.

Bronny would be an afterthought.  If PHX is truly spending a first round pick on Bronny, its to get Lebron.   It really has nothing to do with Bronny or his skill set.

Of course, getting Lebron to take a veteran's minimum seems like  a bit of a pipe dream.

Yeah, I could understand that if they had a max salary slot available in free agency to give LeBron. Hard to see the point otherwise.

Do they think they can sign and trade for LeBron? Hard to see LAL being willing to accept Bradley Beal. Hard to see PHX being willing to part with Devin Booker.

LeBron, Durant and one of Booker / Beal would be a nice Big Three to work with. LeBron would give them the primary ball-handler the other three lack.

I just don't see a way in which that works though. I reckon this story is BS. PHX have no real interest in Bronny.

This trying to drive the narrative, or whatever they’re trying to do, and make Bronny a higher profile prospect than he is won’t work unless the only goal is to get Lebron for a year or two.

Even then I don’t see how this works for Bronny. I’m envisioning a “water boy” scenario where he’s trotted out onto the court to score a feel-good 2 points in a meaningless situation and then poses with Lebron for a photo op while everyone claps.

Does Bronny really want to be the equivalent of the team mascot for 2 years?

Is declining workouts uncommon?  He went to the combine and had a pro day, what do the extra work outs really do?  I get where more extensive interviews and stuff would be helpful, but what does 10 workouts actually accomplish other than flying the kid all over the place.

I mean how many workouts with teams is Zach Edey taking?
