The LA Clippers select one of the guys that made the Suns relevant before Barkley...

Tom Chambers!!!
That is the guy who was rated as a starter on my board. I loved him a stretch four next to some of these big bodied centers like Yao or Artis or paint dwellers like Dwight or Mutombo.

I thought either Chambers or Amare would be the best scoring PF in the league and I was leaning towards Chambers given his proficiency at scoring from the perimeter. More of an asset in today's league.

How come you didn't draft him when your PF spot was open? Just didn't like the fit with your main guys?

Yeah. I didn't like the fit.

I didn't like Chambers and King together at forward. Two guys who want to shoot a heck of a lot and don't do much else.

I didn't like Chambers off the bench with Sikma because they didn't play well together in 1986 when they were on the same team. Now most of that was because of terrible guard play but they were still not a great fit for one another. I felt Sikma needed either more muscle, more rebounding or more defensive presence next to him.

Chambers just wasn't the right fit.

I also wanted a big guy who would help Alonzo more on the boards. Alonzo isn't that big. He is only 6-9 260lbs. He is half an inch taller than Chris Webber. He is a very good athlete but not a freak athlete like Dwight Howard. I felt Alonzo would do better with a bigger body more committed defender / rebounder next to him. Which I didn't quite get. Kinda got but not quite what I was looking for.

With their final pick, the ChiBulls select...

4x all star
2x all defensive 1st team
3x league leader in steals
1x league leader in assists (same year leading steals)
The only player to average 15-6.5-10-3 for a full year...

Magic Johnson and Isaiah Thomas feared him....
Rookie Bird said he was the best player he'd ever seen...

PG/SG (and occasional SF) Michael Ray Richardson!

That was the other guy who I expected to be a starter in this Historical League. A 6-6 defensive monster who rebounds like a forward, is a creative passer and can shoot & score but not with good efficiency.

I thought he would do very well in this format.

I didn't draft him because I had KJ as my #3 PG and Gus (my backup) as my #6 PG overall. I had Michael Ray on that same tier as Gus, Tony Parker, Fat Lever and Tim Hardaway.

Pretty much all the PGs of the 80s talk about how much of a nightmare Michael Ray Richardson was to play against. Zeke said he was his toughest opponent. Just so big, so athletic and so good defensively. Very difficult for all the small guards of that era to handle.

Thanks Who. He is listed as a SG in his 2nd or 3rd years, which I will pick from, and his usage rate is 20% or below those years.

All other years he's listed as a PG and his usage rate is above 20%.

I intend for him to backup at least both guard spots and actually get PT. I know he played some SF back in the day and I guess he could play in a pinch, but I don't know if he has the size for modern days.

I would really strongly think about starting Millsap -- great pick at this point!

Chambers slipped under my radar, cool pick.
I love Millsap, but unsure I'd start him. What might be the case is that I start Webber and Cummings, and have Sampson and Millsap as my bench bigs with Bogut as 3rd string / situational for the big burly 5s.

Ah I'm sorry my bad. I mixed you and RPG up. I thought if he had drafted Millsap that might be worth starting over Detlef. RPG should start Chambers  :)

Ooh, that is a nice 5 man big man rotation.

- One big beefy defensive center in Bogut.
- One finesse skilled quick five in R Sampson.
- A pair of 6-9 multi-skilled 260lbs PFs in Cummings and C-Webb. Webber can slide over to the five as well. Positional versatility.
- Then a smaller PF with speed and shooting to backup T Cummings.

Beautiful balance of skill-sets and ability to play alongside one another in all different types of combinations. To play any style of basketball. To matchup against anyone. Or create matchup problems for anyone.
This was essentially the way I wanted to build my team up. Have a really balanced and skilful big man rotation, and surround them with smooth perimeter play like Roy, Dumars, Davis, Porter & Hornacek

Looks like you already won in '19 and '21. Adding '23 would spell D-Y-N-A-S-T-Y, emphasis on the 'nasty.'
Haha, this draft is a bit different for my mind - the parity is probably a bit better, making it hard to separate for me. Still don't know how I'll vote
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Nuggets are going to pick Fred Brown.

Downtown Freddie Brown.

A man who would absolutely kill in today's league.

Good pick. Super versatile defensive beast who kept the ball moving. Ideal for your team. Would love a Thompson - Richardson - McGrady lineup

I can't decide if I like it better with 2 bigs, or experiment with a 3 wing lineup with 1 big and DWill as a shooter / 2nd ballhandler.

Watching Tatum roast Embiid in game 7 makes me think McGrady should be able to do similarly in this league against a big. Not like Tatum is Mr Efficient.

I might DNP Camby for the regular season, but he'd help that second group.

Well I was going to take Mr. Irrelevant but I suppose taking the guy I want is better than waiting around. We have a bunch of defense on our bench...we're going to round out with a dominant scorer and inspiration for a Drake song.

The Raptors select Kiki "Do You Love Me" Vandeweghe as a third-string power forward. They are actively working on fusing together Kiki and Bobby Jones into Kibby Vandenose to create the best player in the league. If we can't figure that out, we'll play the matchups.
