Rob's biggest weakness is his inability to create off the dribble.  He has zero handle.  These  videos are all catch and shoot stuff, which is cool, but not really going to move the needle for him much offensively.
How much creation do you expect off the dribble from the 5th option?

I was hoping for Bill Russell II

I’ve always wanted him to take at least one a game just to the opponent honest.  I think he’d shoot at a low percentage from midrange.  It just will be less than his usual 80%!

I think it would do wonders for his game. Not that he's ever gonna be Horford or KP but teams won't be able to slack off him too much.

And maybe all the attention Tatum gets when driving he can shoot a wide open shot.

I'd like to see him work on more of a McHale type jumper and post than the 3 (though even McHale started shooting 3's late in his career).  Obviously not expecting him to turn into the best low post player ever, but I think he is athletic enough to learn that game.
Yup

Rob has decent form and release on his free throws, so he should be able to develop a reliable jumper from 8' & in.
Add in a baby hook off a post-up move and he could give himself and the team more offensive options.

McHale shot 3's ?? I missed that. It didn't become any regular p`

LOL, he shot a few.  In 89-90, he was just under 1 per game and at 33%.  It was strange to see him take them, but he did have a sweet mid range shot that I bet if the game had been more around the three, he could have developed.  Would have hated to see that spin fade away go away though!

He took more that one season than he had in his career combined until then.  For the day and age it was very unusual.  Even the biggest gunners were taking 5 or 6 a game at most.

I remember he hit a huge one against Detroit in a playoff game when the a Pistons had clearly surpassed the Celts, but the Celts were still battling hard.

Kevin did shoot them, not a lot

Definitely, low volume as you say and some of these may have been heaves from half court as time was running out.  Even Larry only shot 1.9 3 point attempts per game  for his career so it was a different game

I don't think anyone suggested that RWill should be working on his 3 point shot.  He should be modeling his offensive game after Bam Adebayo.  If he could master the elbow jumper (and in), that would be a tremendous improvement.  Maybe a little jump hook.  He is ways away from even having those shots but good to see him working on it.

Brandon Bass. Remember that guy? Killer midrange jumper.

If TL could score off of pick and roll, and pick and pop? That’d be a very welcome wrinkle to this 3-point fest

I had read this today

“[Jayson Tatum is] mad at Rob when he isn’t taking shots,
” Miller told Forsberg. “And he is mad at Rob — not mad, but holding him accountable — when he isn’t taking shots and when he isn’t being a threat or looking at the goal… It’s basically giving him the nod like, ‘Hey, it’s OK that you’re taking those shots. It’s OK that you’re taking those midrange (shots) because we need you to take them.’ Because, like I said, it’ll open up other opportunities for [Tatum and (Jaylen) Brown].”

I saw this, and there was more:

Quote
” …  [Houston-based skills trainer Aaron Miller went on] When Rob gets rebounds and throws it out to [Tatum or Jaylen Brown] to shoot it, I could tell you 12 other superstars in the NBA that would be so happy because they’re trying to get their shot attempts up. But Jayson Tatum, and I don’t know him personally, but just in the sense of him saying, ‘Rob, we need you to shoot that, we need you,’ — man, I thought that was amazing for Rob’s confidence moving forward

I'd be happy if he just worked on his landing skills when jumping and anything else that would keep him healthy.

Working on free throws would be the next improvement I'd like to see.

Rob is such an incredible threat at the rim, if he develops a reliable 12-15 footer he'll be open for it a lot. And if he starts hitting, that makes the defense think twice and will get him more opening around the rim as a result.

All good stuff.

Rob's biggest weakness is his inability to create off the dribble.  He has zero handle.  These  videos are all catch and shoot stuff, which is cool, but not really going to move the needle for him much offensively.
How much creation do you expect off the dribble from the 5th option?

It is that one dribble drive from about 12-15 feet on the short roll or off cuts that would open up a lot of extra rim opportunities for Rob Williams. With his speed and finishing ability at the rim, he would see a major increase in paint finishes. He would also receive more defensive attention and that too would open up more opportunities for others.

Currently Timelord is only really a threat if he catches the ball right at the rim. If he could improve his one dribble drive, that makes him a threat out to 15 feet even without improving his jumper from there. It grows the area of the court where the defense has to worry about him. Where he can impact the game.
