I posted this in the SL thread.  Touches on Walsh, JD and Scrubb.

Interesting take on JD Davison's SL.

Spinella is a frequent contributor to the Athletics' draft and college coverage with Sam Vecenie.

Between Davison and Scrubb, if either had their 2 way promoted to full roster spot this season, at the moment I'd lean toward Scrubb.  Less responsibility means he can focus on his strengths, while Davison would have a lot of pressure on him.

An injured regular PG might change my mind, but I like Scrubb's potential speciality role on this team...defense with a bit of scoring.

I see Scrubb as the lower variance, call up in emergency player that won't make egregious mistakes.  JD is the high potential developmental player but with high variance in possible outcomes.

Jared Weiss gives his Celtics Summer League grades:

Davison:  D+
Banton:  B
Walsh:  B+
Scrubb: A-
Champagnie: C

That seems like some kind grading with Banton, and a bit harsh with Walsh.
Im harsher on everyone

Davison:  D
Banton:  D-
Walsh:  B
Scrubb: B
Champagnie: D

I wasn't as high on Davison's performance from the games that I watched, but Spinella is clearly considering more than just what the final box score says. It's true that Davison did deliver a lot of accurate passes, some of which probably would have been assists with better teammates. Also, scoring guards usually go off in summer league because they control the ball and are playing against makeshift defenses. Davison had a harder task of trying to actually be a distributor first.

I think part of the reason Celts fans were more muted is because we really wanted to see improved shooting and finishing around the basket. Also, the 10 TO game right after he signed another two-way cast a pall over all the good things he did.

11 best NBA rookies in 2023 Summer League, ranked

5. Jordan Walsh, F, Boston Celtics

Walsh’s combination of size and defense helped make him a five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American out of Link Academy, but his lack of offensive development as a freshman at Arkansas pushed him down to the No. 38 pick in the draft. The big surprise in Las Vegas was how much better his offense already looks at this level.

I’m not sure I’d have ranked him above the Thompson twins, who both looked like impact players from what I saw, but Walsh didn’t look at all like a teenage 38th pick in the draft.  He either looked like a teenage lottery pick or a second-round college senior.  Terrific pick by Brad.

Agree completely. Doesn't look like a 19 year-old 2nd rounder whatsoever
