Riley should be doing anything in his power to get a deal done. They have no other avenues to get Butler help. If there ever was a time to send sort of godfather offer this is it. They will have a whole new team in 2-3 years regardless.

Blazers’ Joe Cronin: “We have been clear that we want Dame here but he notified us today he wants out and he’d prefer to play someplace else. What has not changed for us is that we’re committed to winning, and we are going to do what’s best for the team in pursuit of that goal.”

Front offices talking to Portland today were left with impression that GM Joe Cronin is pursuing a star-level return package for Damian Lillard – and that Cronin plans to look well beyond the Miami Heat to find one.

Good for them.

Harden is obvious win-now move.

I have zero interest in Lillard but would be totally on board in becoming a facilitator and giving up Brogdon/picks etc to get Herro. Would be pretty funny. He’d be a great fit on this team as a 6th man/ ball handler.

Amen, I’d hate to see a Pau Gasol fiasco 2.0.

The Heat have nothing to offer the Blazers. Tyler Herro is massively overpaid & overrated, IMO. The Heat made the Finals because he was out, not despite it.

I hate the following words but if Miami offers nothing better than Herro and pieces, what about Derrick White, Rob Williams, and Pritchard/Davison as a starting point from Boston?  Add GSW #1 and whatever else it takes. That seems to me far better than a Herro-based package.  Then the door opens to flip JB for a roster balancing/ need-based return.

Neither package has the potential star power that Portland probably hopes to get in return.

So forget the 2nd apron for a second. I think you can make an easy case that if you just add Lillard to Brown/Tatum/KP you are easily the favorite in the NBA and maybe by a lot.

But the question then is really this: Who WYC be willing to pay the MASSIVE tax it would take he'd have to pay to keep that group together even for a year, let alone longer?

Could be posturing, but I hope its true.

Kevin O Connor floated that idea the other day. I would personally do it because everyone is under contract multiple years and you could flip somebody later. The idea of him waltzing to Miami isn’t good. Somebody would probably be unhappy though, most likely Brown.

Ehhh, Brown is about to get his money. Being chill with a smaller role (which everyone, including Tatum, would have in a Lillard trade) is generally a lot easier after you sign a RECORD contract.

I hope they stick to their guns.  F sending Dame to where he wants to go.  He has no say in this.  Trade him for the best deal.  With Beal Washington needed to get off of his contract and Beal also had a NTC.  They really didn't have much room on where he went.

Dame on the other hand is signed for two more seasons.  I think they will get a lot more then Herro for Lilliard.  I hope he goes to San Antonio.  That would be a lot of fund with Wemby and those  young players.  They would instantly be a potential 7-8 seed with that team.

Miami is one of those teams I just hate.  Not because they beat us but I hate Jimmy Butler as much as any player in the NBA.  I don't want to see this guy win.  Bam is another one I don't like.  Not as bad as Jimmy but he's an arsehat as well.

Yeah, I was thinking about Towns for Lillard as well. Good deal for both sides.

G - Scoot Henderson
G - A Simons
F - S Sharpe
F - J Grant
C - Towns

That is a fun team to run with in Portland. Towns is the franchise piece you can build around while Scoot grows. A Simons a solid 3rd / 4th option. Same with Jerami Grant. S Sharpe gets to grow up with less pressure on him due to the talent around him.

Minnesota gets to rebalance their lineup. Gets rid of the silly two towers concept which did not work for them and will not work in the future. Lillard and A Edwards is a sweet 1-2 punch on the perimeter with Gobert doing the dirty work in the paint.

OK what would you guys say to this one.  2 parts.

Jaylen to Houston for Jalen Green, Kevin Porter Jr, and JaSean Tate. Plus 2025 and 2027 Nets picks
.
Then flip Green, Porter, and one of the picks to Portland for Herro as part of the Lillard trade.

Do basically Brown for Herro and filler (Tate) and the 2027 Nets pick.

The Portland management sounds like they’ll do what is best for them.
