I agree with the original post/poster.
One of the things this team really struggles with is a PG that has blow by speed to get into the paint and break the defense down and then perhaps more importantly, make the right read for the pass or shot once there.
We have to work so hard to get a hood shot. A great point guard creates easy looks for the best shooters - completely changes the game.
Smart, White, Brogdon, Tatum, Pritchard and Brown? The only guy who has blow by speed there is Brown and he has marginal ball handling skills and poor decision making once he gets by his man. Not his fault - he’s not a PG.
The fact that Barlow said Davison has excelled at that very thing, was in the top five in assist in the G-League in assists, has a decent assist to turnover ratio and lead Maine to the highest offensive rating Carrie’s some weight.
I’m not saying Davison should start (by any stretch of the imagination) but I’d give him some minutes. He’s explosive in the open court and I’d let him take his Lumos in the half court.
If he can handle the speed of the game and make good decisions he’d have a field day with the Williams, Porzingis, Tatum, Brown lineup - any half decent drive and dish point would.
He’s the best blow by, drive and fish guy we have the roster. Time to get him some minutes - maybe 5-10 a game, more if he warrants it.
His biggest issues will be shooting and defense. He has the body to be good enough in D - might as well let him take his lumps.
His shooting probably comes along in time - especially if he’s already sniffing 80% from the line in the G- League…
