I just heard some tape on the radio where Jaylen was asked something along the lines of "what is your thought process regarding the negotiation?".  After a long and awkward pause, Jaylen basically said I am just taking it day to day.  It was very strange.  I can't find a link to the actual report.

This interview caused me to be suspicious that there may be more going on than meets the eye.  It should be so straight forward.  The largest contract in the history of the NBA.

Either brown is making Boston tangle in the wind because of the trade rumors or maybe he doesn’t want to be here anymore

That interview was from a while ago (I think soon after being eliminated). But yeah, it's been nearly 1.5 months since then, Draft + FA has mostly gone by, and yet still nothing. And it honestly doesn't even sound like both sides are close on anything, hence all the delays/pauses

I don't think it's either.  He's spent time with the summer league team this week.  If he's upset with the team, I don't think he'd be doing team-related activities.

OK, if that is the case, then I can understand his response.  It is still a little weird but if they hadn't even really started negotiations, I can understand why he was caught off guard by the question.  Not sure why they were replaying it if it was old news.

Man...I shoulda picked a career as Boston sports radio/journalist/internet/podcast host. The littlest bit of innuendo sets this fan base off. Hot takes! Drama! The baseless conjecture is thru the roof.

Yes, that was the post game interview after the game 7 loss to Miami. For what it’s worth, here’s the latest news I saw re: Jaylen’s contract extension. Both sides are confident that it would be done, but JB has to do some obligations outside the country so talks are paused at the time being.

It would be the largest contract in NBA history. Potentially 304 million, with 70 million in the final year of the deal. In that sense, I think both sides taking their time with the details all things considered is normal.

He’s still under contract and part of the players association. If he stopped doing that it would set a bad example and fuel the flames and articles. Then again isn’t he friends with Kyrie? So it wouldn’t shock me. Until they come to terms I’d say there’s an issue. Other super maxes get done right away.

Think about that. A guy who isn't even one of the 20 best players in the sport is going to get paid more money than anyone in history.  That is a bad contract.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

It is just unreal that he is going to get that contract. He is a good player. But $304 mill? Yeesh...

I am afraid it is going to just saddled the Celtics financially for a long time unless they can move him.

The only thing I can say is it looks bad because he's the first one to get it.

But it's not inconceivable that it won't be top 10 in salaries at some point as other guys become eligible for supermax deals.

Although, I do wonder if there is a point it will stop? I mean will we hit a time where players are making $100million a year? Or will salaries keep rising?

The cost is just going to be passed onto all the NBA fans in the form of Cable and ticket prices. Which already is high.

It's crazy, but as long as the NBA keeps making more money, the size of these contracts will keep going up. With expansion coming soon with 2 more teams, that's a larger market with more potential for profits. If they keep going with plans for international expansion in the long term, this could go on for a while.

To pull from the Simpsons, more money than anyone else in history so far.

It’s a chronological oddity rather than anything to do with quality.
