Reminds me of when the team traded Perk.

Ya we got a better player, but we're losing the back bone of the team.

Hmm ... yeah. Big change.

I find it best to have a stable, reliable backbone. Smart was far from that.

Also, we hear all of this talk about Smart being the "heart and soul" of the team.  Yet the team constantly had its "heart and soul" questioned.

Just saying...
I don't know if the questioning of the team's heart & soul was ever very warranted. They often displayed fight and came back from deficits. I think the more questionable aspect of the team was reliability, or stability. And I think Smart embodied all the shortcomings in those areas.

He could look like the reincarnation of Jason Kidd, or Michael Carter-Williams. And you never knew which one he'd be.

For a team that kept losing playoff games at home, something drastic had to happen, I'm good with this.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

C: Porzingis, Rob Williams
F: Horford, Grant Williams
F: Tatum, Hauser
G: Jaylen,
G: D White, Brogdon, Pritchard

It is a pretty fine team especially if Grant Williams returns. Big boost to physical toughness / defense at forward / wing off the bench.

I would trade Pritchard.

I am happy with JD Davison as 3rd string.
They now have some draft capital to deal. And I think Davison is in their plans. Maybe they go for a veteran guy (CP3 - Rubio?) with Davison in PP's role next season?

Not quite accurate, for that particular team, Perk was a better player than soft Jeff Green.

Kinda feel like Horford is going to be wasted on offense on this team.

This reminds me of when San Antonio got LaMarcus Aldridge and I felt that would detract from Tim Duncan's role in the offense. Duncan went from being the facilitator to being a spectator. Instead of the ball running through Duncan, it went to Aldridge in post ups and PnP actions.

With Porzingis there and Jaylen and Tatum. Plus a guard in D White or Brogdon. There just isn't much left for Horford to work with. I expect he'll be even further reduced as a facilitator / passer and more and more of a spot up shooter. Essentially turning him into a 2nd Grant Williams instead of utilizing him for what he actually is = one of the best high post facilitators in the league.

Gives Boston options. Can keep brogdan.
Have the picks to sweeten a deal to move him

Can keep Grant or move him

Can just make the pick at 25

Yeah, I generally agree with you.  Questioning their heart against adversity was probably never fair.  They came back in numerous playoff series against quality opponents multiple times just in the last two years alone; that doesn't happen without "heart".  But I do think we had a bad habit of just taking games off, even in the playoffs (inexplicably), where we visibly gave substandard effort and focus.  If that "heart" is replaced with one that takes every game seriously, then I'll consider that an upgrade.  Don't need to climb out of deep holes we don't dig in the first place.

He is, however, now 37 years old. I think pivoting away from him is the way forward. I think Tatum growing as a playmaker could offset this too - use JT in the post a lot with the spacing provided by the bigs. Sort of an inverse 4 out 1 in.

So D White is a below average passer at PG. Jaylen is a below average passer at SG. Porzingis is a below average passer at C. Horford is likely to pushed so far down the offensive pecking order that we make little use of his passing essentially making him average to below average in terms of impact (rather than ability).

The only above average passer in that starting lineup is Tatum. And he is a plus passer more than a great passer.

This is not good. This does not spell ball movement. This spells iso-ball.

Agree with this. Consistency and balance is what I wanted, and I think this helps (if healthy!!)

Was this our Ray Allen move or Kevin Garnett move?

I sense one more big move coming since we got some picks and still got PP, Grant, and Brogdon...

In keeping with the trend, the Celtics became softer today.

Will miss Smart. It's going to be difficult watching an even more mentally weak team. Hopefully Brown is out sooner than later.

These playoffs made me even more grateful for the IT years. Those teams were fun and played above expectation. The playoff exits were inevitable but never embarrassing. It was easy to feel proud of IT and co.

I bet Pritchard still doesn't want to be here.  He wants to play to get that next contract (who could blame him), and is still the 3rd string point guard here. I don't see him getting the 25+ mpg that Smart/White/Brogdon got. Most of the minutes that just opened up aren't going to get distributed down to Pritchard.

I'm wary of having a disgruntled player looking for a contract on the team. I like Pritchard, but wouldn't be upset if the team moved him.
