Maybe Morey did lie to him. It seems plausible considering he opted in to be traded. But it's like the boy who cried wolf. He's done this many times so who do you believe?

What a disaster "the process" has been

It's entirely possible that Morey intended to max him out when he signed his extension where he took a $15m haircut...because at that time Harden was coming from Brooklyn where his deterioration wasn't that apparent yet. It could also have been a prove it year for James and all he proved was that he wasn't worth a max. It's possible Morey was overruled by Harris but I don't think so, I think he came to the conclusion James wasn't worth a max after seeing his body of work.

Then it probably became apparent to James midway thru the season that he wasn't going to get a max so he started floating rumors he wanted to go back to Houston, but Houston didn't want him either...and his FA market was dry end of season so he opted in on the understanding that he would be traded.

But Morey being Morey was not going to lose him for pennies on the dollar so they decided to stop trade talks when they couldn't get a comparable player back...Morey will do what he did with Simmons, wait for some GM to get desperate and worried about his job and try to either go for James as a rental or maybe as a salary dump mid season. He's not in a rush and won't bid against himself. And so Harden is now caught between a rock and a hard place

The biggest worry for the Sixers might be Harden cooperating with the NBA in investigating a Joe Smith under the table agreement.  They'll surely argue there was no agree, as evidenced by them not giving him a large extension and them not trading him to his team of choice.  Hopefully he has evidence.

i'm surprised so many posters still love Harden. maybe they are just looking at "stats" and "analytics." Sure he averaged alot of assists and had 2 big games against the celtics...but thats it. that is the sign of a star in decline. sure they can summon up a 45point game, maybe 2! but they cant keep it up for a series. We saw it plenty of times in pierce/KG/Allens later years..

to me he clearly was NOT the same harden he used to be in Philly. and even Houston harden I don't really think contributed much to winning despite his stats. how many blown game 7's?

Hard to know who said what but you are right that Harden has not been able to maintain superstar level for the last 2 or 3 seasons.  You see it in flashes but overall, it just isn't there anymore.  I suspect that he is struggling with both injury/wear and also motivation issues.

I don't know who they are going to trade him to.  CHI maybe?  MIN?

Harden is possibly my least favourite player to watch of the last decade or so. His game is Ginobilian… if Manu’s game had been build on bloodless efficiency rather than an abundance of joy.

But he’s still one of the best scorers in NBA history. He’s one ridiculous game away from knocking Golden State off their dynastic pedestal. The guy was unwatchable, but he was very very good.

maybe it's just that to me his game is so unwatchable. predicated on drawing fouls.

I dont think its a coincidence that his play went down when the NBA introduced the new foul rules

Tucker has publicly supported harden on ig and now Embid has removed Philly and the process from his bio. Do I get any acknowledgements from the people a few pages back vehemently insisting harden had no leverage and couldn’t disrupt the team?

We now have Ramona Shelburne stating she has heard that "this is only the beginning" of Harden's work to disrupt the organisation.

Love it! Couldn't have happened to a more deserving organisation

Doc Rivers is probably thanking his lucky stars. Leaves that mess, gets a cushy broadcasting gig.

Now we just need Embiid to request a trade

76ers fans in LibertyBallers are voicing their concerns over Porzingis and him opting out of the World Cup due to plantar fasciitis and that "the C's should've never traded their heart and soul of the team for Latvian roulette"

They ought to be more concerned about their own franchise...The Process will still be processing but for a long time.
