I'm pretty sure that Brogdon didn't like being floated in trades, in addition to understanding that he would still come off the bench. I'm not 100% on this, but I think it's why he was less than content.

Players are paid big to play, and GMs are responsible for the roster. A good GM will consider how players fit together. I think Stevens has put together an excellent team on paper. I also think the bench is underrated.

Jrue is a competitor. He's older than both Tatum and Brown. If he's the leader, I'm ecstatic.

I see Jrue as "a leader" rather than "the leader". He can be one of the leadership group but not the main man that others follow. He just does not have the talent to justify that. Only Tatum does on this team.

DJ could never be the leader over Bird. That is not to say he did not have a leadership role. He was one of the leaders on the team rather than the main leader which was Bird.

True. I like DJ as a comp for Holliday.

JB and JT have hit a wall late in a couple of series. I see Jrue as another source of accountability when focus, effort, and/or stamina become an issue. He has proven to be one of the most focused players in the NBA since he was drafted.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

Jay Scrubb suffered a torn ACL in practice. Too bad for the kid as he’s had a nice pre season. It would be interesting to see what Brad does. Is a 2-way deal guaranteed? Should Brad look elsewhere for a 2 way player? Waiving him would be harsh though.

Hard to see us keeping him in one of the two way slots when we only get three of them. At the very least the team should guarantee his (pretty low) salary, maybe add him to the g-league roster if he isnt covered by the NBPA's health plan

That's a really tough break for someone trying to make it into the NBA

On one hand, I like the idea of having Celtics involved in international competition, and I know that the Olympics are considered (at least here in the U.S.) the international event.  However, I would like our players to get through summers without injuries.

I realize that an injury could happen in a random summer pick-up game, but I suspect that it's more likely to occur in an intensely-competitive setting.  It's a particular concern for players, like Holiday, who are on the wrong side of the NBA age line.  (I say this as someone who is well above that age line.)

Two-ways are not guaranteed.  If there weren’t the second apron, I imagine the Celtics would convert his contract to an nba deal with an amount equal to the 2-way salary guaranteed and subsequently waive him.  Because the second apron exists, I don’t know that they can afford that kindness.  It’s possible the NBA has an insurance policy that covers players on two-ways/exhibit 9 deals that get hurt in training camp, but I admit it would pleasantly surprise me if that were actually the case.

Based on one preseason game, I think there is some added clarity.  They started Porzingis and Horford in the game, which I like, but you can't really expect that Holiday will come off the bench once things settle out.  So it probably is not settled whether they will start bigger with Horford or smaller with White and Holiday.

1.   Tatum
2.   Brown
3.   Holiday
4.   Porzingis
5.   White
6.   Horford

7.   Brissett
8.   Pritchard
9.   Hauser
10.  Mykhailiuk
11.  Kornet

12.  Walsh
13.  Banton

two-way:  Davison, Scrubb, Queta
Camp:  Stevens, Wenyen Gabriel (?), Kylor Kelley (?),

Another way to look at the likely roster (my preferred bigger unit):

Holiday         Pritchard        Banton
Brown           White            Mykhailiuk
Tatum           Hauser           Walsh
Porzingis       Brissett
Horford         Kornet

With the amount of playing time that Stevens received, he is probably going to end up converted from a camp deal to a full roster spot and I would say that there is a good chance that he beats out Hauser for the 3rd wing spot.  Brissett looked pretty comfortable to be the 7th or 8th guy and get regular minutes as a Swing/PF, essentially the Grant replacement.  Pritchard has been a legit back up Guard since his rookie season.  He had a nice game, solidifying his role, but it shouldn't be a surprise.

The one hole or weakness is a replacement for Rob Williams.  If the plan or hope is that Kornet can be that, I don't see it and last night's game did not help his cause.  There is also some hope that Gabriel might be that but that is far from certain.  We can get by with Brissett as the 3rd big (Swing/PF) but the need for a solid bench big is obvious.  I am fine with seeing how Gabriel does before rushing to make a move but I feel there will be a need to do something at some point.

Jrue should be starting. I'll chalk game 1 up to him being Abit rusty.

One thing is you can see the potential of this team. KP was cooking. We really haven't had a guy with his skillet and next to Brown/Tatum seems he is going to put up points

When these guys are all on the floor together it's really going to be tough to defend for other teams.

Souichi Terada: Kristaps Porzingis on two-man game with Jayson Tatum: “It’s just super easy, honestly. Those guys are so talented. Jayson just draws so much attention that it opens things up. That’s a perfect scenario for me.” – via Twitter SouichiTerada

John Karalis: Porzingis on the crowd: “That was insane. That was insane for a preseason game. I don’t know what to say. Fun game to play in, fun game to watch at the end when Payton was going off & the whole crowd was into it. It was just – I’m very happy to be a Celtic. I’m not gonna lie.” – via Twitter John_Karalis

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

It looks like KP is going to flourish in this offense. And show why Brad brought him in.

I have a very difficult time believing there is not some sort of financial protection for 2 way players who get injured while under any type of contract.
ok fine

Why is exceeding the second apron relevant at all this season?  Guaranteeing money to Scrubb hurts due to the tax, but I don't think there's any second apron penalty.

But otherwise, agreed.  We guaranteed Strus' salary before waiving him, correct?  I don't think we were a taxpayer at the time though.

If they can financially take care of Scrubb as mentioned, could we waive Banton and bring him back on a 2-way?  That would open up a roster spot

Speaking of two-ways, Harry Giles is apparently only on an Exhibit 10 contract.

So I guess his 2-way eligibility might come into play. Interesting

Yep.  The plan may be to waive him and send him to the G-league, but any team could presumably swipe him with a two-way or NBA contract.

Along with Walker, the Nets also inked Dennis Smith Jr., Darius Bazley and Trendon Watford on veteran minimum deals, and Harry Giles on an Exhibit 10 deal. While there is open space on the camp roster, fighting for spots in the rotation is going to be tough with a fairly set top-seven. For that, Walker will have to show well on both ends of the floor. “I think overall he’s still trying to feel how he fits in, first group [or] second group,” coach Jacque Vaughn said. “[He] can do a little bit of everything. I think, for me, the ability to give him simple tasks on both ends of the floor will allow him to flourish. – via Brian Lewis @ New York Post
