Not sure if this has already been noted but choosing between the Celtics and Panathinaikos?  I am guessing it is more money in Greece, but he has already earned over $10M in his career.  The vet min contract is $2.165M for him I think.  What kind of money could Panathinaikos be offering?  Being Ukrainian, I guess Greece is closer to home but wouldn't the NBA be way better for him?

Alternatively, he's already earned over $10m., so why would he want to ride the bench for the Celtics instead of actually playing in the Euroleague? Some guys prefer international play - or just playing in general. Rudy Fernández is always the first example I think of who never really came back from Real Madrid after the 2011 lockout (he played a little bit in Denver, but not really).

Kinda crazy that someone like Kelly oubre and Christian wood still remain unsigned. Guess the 20ppg they averages doesn't tell the whole story?

There's been some reports that those 2 guys could be waiting to see what happens with Lillard. If Miami gives up multiple rotation guys to get him, it could open up playing time on a contender.

Interesting, I guess it could go that way.  I suppose they figure they can always take a vet min right before the season starts.  I don't think Lillard is going to be traded before the start of the season at this point.  We'll see.

Makes sense to me from Wood's camp. Bam is the kind of big man that can cover a ton of Wood's flaws.

PAO has been on a crazy spending spree this summer. They have retooled the entire roster and recently signed Juancho Hernangomez.  I’d say he’d make at least around the NBA bet minimum in Greece. Plus get bigger minutes tbh and be an integral part of the team that is been built to contend for a euro league title.

Report: Celtics’ Oshae Brissett will miss FIBA World Cup to rehab apparent knee injury

Not good for a guy who has a history of knee injuries. I hope they still add to the bench.

Well, better than playing and totally blowing out his knee I guess, like what happened to Gallinari, but not what you want to hear about your "big" off season FA signing.

Brad has spoken highly of Kristaps publicly. What did you hear from him that convinced you this would be the right direction? Wyc Grousbeck: He is a committed and now seasoned and effective player. He’s a real force. I’m really impressed with his commitment to being part of a winning Celtics team. I met with him when he came up for the press conference and spent some real time with him, and he’s so happy to be here. He’s so ready to shine at this stage of his career. But he sees a team concept, not the KP show. He’s continually improved over his career, and he thinks this is his prime. But he’s about the team, his teammates and the banner. He chose us. There were other people, I hear, that wanted him. And he chose us. He wants to be here and he wants to win a ring. – via Boston Globe

Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck: 'No thought of selling the team'

Over the past year, Marc Lasry sold his stake in the Bucks for $3.5 billion and Michael Jordan sold his share of the Hornets for about $3 billion. Do you ever think about your long-term future owning this franchise? Wyc Grousbeck: No thought of selling the team. I did this for love and for Celtic pride, not for any price tags. Period. – via Boston Globe

Not price tags.  Just oodles and oodles of profit.

More from Wyc…

What stuck with you about this past season, which ended when your team’s attempt to become the first team to come back from a 3-0 series deficit fell just short in the conference finals against the Heat? Wyc Grousbeck: I’d put the last two seasons together almost. We had really talented teams for the last two years, but inconsistency at the end of each of the last two seasons cost us. I mean, we lost to two good teams: the Warriors and the Heat. But it felt like we could have done a better job and had a better outcome. So I lump the last two seasons together and say that they were missed opportunities.

What was that conversation like with Brad and Joe when you realized you needed changes rather than believing you could try again with the same group? Wyc Grousbeck: The general tone was, how do we take this energy we’re feeling right now that was built up over having two good seasons, but then didn’t get all the way? The whole point is, how do we get to banner 18? If we’d all agreed we should keep things the same that would have been fine. But the idea of bringing in another talented big popped up early in the conversation, and we ended up executing on that idea.  – via Boston Globe

Do you think that this was the best way to make money? I bet his venture capital buddies think its cool that he has a team, but they've made more money over the last 21 years.

I think its true that he bought the team out of love. He also wanted to make money. The Celtics just agreed to pay JB more than anyone else ever. This is a competitive team that has had a top 3 chance to win the NBA championship over the last 2 years. There's plenty of blame to go around- Wyc might be #47, right after the guy that installed the Ring doorbell camera.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

I don't know how the venture capitalists have done since 2003 percentage wise, but Wyc's purchase has appreciated about 13x, while bringing in roughly $1 billion in operating income.  He's doing quite well.

Totally agree with you Roy. Wyc has made a ton of money, nominal and real. He's also a VC. It is his job to compare investments. On a relative scale, I think he could have made more money. He had plenty of opportunities to cash out.

That 2002 Celtics team was so obviously a fake contender. He had a rough start, but the 08-11 Celtics were fun and now they are a perennial contender. He has been far better than Paul Gaston.

The problems last year:

-Ime (and little Ime)
-Joe
-Injuries
-JB
-JT

Fix those, and #18 is there for the taking.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

The Celtics, league sources say, have interest in re-signing Blake Griffin. Less clear is Griffin’s stance, at 34, on returning to Boston for a 15th NBA season. Griffin signed with the Celtics in early October after training camp had already begun and appeared in just one playoff game after playing in 41 regular-season games.  – via Marc Stein @ marcstein.substack.com

This is the year its going to happen for the Celtics. He'd be smart to ride the pine, collect a ring, then ride out into the sunset.

Is he a hall of famer?

Got to think he’s borderline.
