Mazzulla was asked for an update on the Brogdon situation, which didn’t sound like it was back to copasetic. “There is a healing process, there is a listening process and to see where we are at and where we have to get to,” Mazzulla said. “We’ve had some conversations as an organization but at the same time, we understand that’s the situation that it was and as the healing process goes on, we will move forward as well as you can.”
Brogdon isn't important to this team being a title contender. They have enough scoring & creation with Tatum, Jaylen and Porzingis. They can live without Brogdon if they need to. Pritchard and Hauser can cover his minutes at PG and SG.
Heck, the team might be better off without Brogdon. Less guys competing with each other for touches / shot attempts.
I'd love to try and trade Brogdon for another D White type of player. A defensive glue guy type instead of an offensive creator.
With Smart gone, brogdon is even more important now. Can't rely on Payton Pritchard as your only other guard.
Brogdon would lead a bench with Pritchard, Hauser, Horford and probably kornet. He is the only scorer on that unit and it is needed. (Horford can score but brogdon better at his own shot)
I agree, Brogdon is important. It seems strange that he is having such an issue with this. He is a seasoned pro. He knows the deal. I can understand some level of consternation from him but the way this is being discussed or reported, it is like he was left at the alter or something.
I hope he gets through this and is part of the team. If not, he could be traded, but I suspect the Celtics don't want to trade him now. In any case, if he is traded, it will create a need that would then have to be addressed.
We don't know too much about where Brogdon's at. We know he's had some hurt feelings, but I think that's natural. I mean, he willingly accepted a bench role, went out and won 6MOY, was a good soldier the entire year, and then played through a serious and painful injury in the playoffs. Then, it sounds like he was basically traded until the Clippers backed out.
I'd be miffed, too. It's a business, but when you make sacrifices I think it's natural to expect some sort of loyalty in return. I'm sure Brogdon would be fine if he was sure it was a one-time thing, but he probably has the (completely realistic) expectation that it's only a matter of time before he's traded. If the team didn't discuss a trade with him or his agent before the Clippers situation, he's probably not trusting the team a whole lot right now.
I'm curious what "we've had some conversations as an organization" means. Also, I hope that Joe isn't leaving it just to Brad to smooth things over. Joe should be checking in with him to make him feel valued.
