I'm still very torn on this trade. Marcus Smart embodied being a Celtic and his grit/toughness/intangibles are hard to replace. It still remains to be seen if this was the best move. This still was a talented roster if you just stay put. The question is if the ceiling is to lose in the ECF or Finals. I personally don't think Smart was the reason they lost to the 8th seed heat and waddled their way against Atlanta/Philly. but something needs to change.
But, I do wonder if this is needed for the J's to truly take leadership roles with this team and say this is "my team." Marcus was the loudest voice in that locker-room and was the de-facto leader from being the longest tenured celtic. I think sometimes he suffered from "forgetting his role" aka doing too much due to his status with the team. He shouldn't be taking more shots than Brown/Tatum and shouldn't be the guy taking the shot at end of games.
Maybe in the celtics eyes, this void in the locker-room can be filled by Tatum/Brown stepping up and taking more vocal roles. Now, this is CLEARLY their team. Which your best players SHOULD be the leaders on that team. Also, Brogdon/White may be more willing to play their "role" and not do too much knowing where they stand in the pecking order.
Only time will tell. There still are moves to be made.
