Ppl still blaming Joe need to get a dose of reality.
Coaches can only do so much.
His players are sucking
It *might* just be because he simply doesn't put them in positions to succeed. You know, like completely changing a highly successful defensive identity from last year to focus on a completely erratic and unsustainable gameplan of just chucking threes and not focusing on the D.
Hard for the players to succeed when they're not given the tools or opportunity to succeed.
It took Ime half the season last year to get the players to buy into the system and it proved to be super-successful. Joe apologists will tell you that this season's team had a better record than last year's, but that is just stupid. First, because of what I just mentioned above, but also, this team came out red-hot after a Title run and has been sputtering ever since. It is like the opposite of last season and that really is on the coach...especially since we now have a more 'talented' team.
TP. This is much more reminiscent of the last Brad year than last year. Both examples of lost locker rooms and tuning out of the coach.
You're right as usual, JP Brad introduced the 3 ball mentality coupled with lack of defense. The latter was so bad his first year, DVG exploited the constant switching defense to the point Isaiah Thomas was covering Drummond down low in the box...3 times in the first game played between the 2 teams. Other teams exploited the same weakness until Brad was forced to try various ways which largely failed until Ime was hired.
Danny eventually got tired of his suggestions made to Brad to curtail the over reliance on the 3 ball with 4 players parked outside the 3 pt line with no one cutting to the basket and play "Celtic's Ball" being ignored that he went to Wyc who sided with Brad because he was younger and made less money than Danny.
Danny "resigned" citing wanting to spend more time with his family but the reality he was forced out. But, the minute the GM job at Utah opened up, he got right back onto the saddle and does what he does best--overhauling the roster and acquiring a boatload of draft picks-to rebuild that franchise just like he did with the C's with a purpose-win a championship.
Joe is a puppet and slavishly devoted to the 3 ball offense his boss, Brad, hung his hat on. BOTH of them lost the locker room during their respective tenures and BOTH need to be ushered out this off-season.
The question is does Wyc have the cahones to admit he made a mistake with respect to both Brad and Joe. Any new coach hired (especially the front runners like Nurse, Bud, Atkinson) will want assurances that they have the latitude to change the
philosophy on both sides of the ball.
Wyc really only cares about revenue IMO rather than the ultimate prize (a championship especially in light of the C's long illustrious history in 4 separate decades). The C's have the talent to do so (including multiple banners) IFF Wyc steps up, admits the mistakes he made and hires not merely a new HC but a new GM as well.
