This is why I said after Game 4 it's not worth my time to stress about this team.

Look at their performance and body language. They are an unserious team. Even in the interviews, they just say the same thing over and over, but repeat the same mistakes every time. I bet you even after this game they'll be like, "oh we just got to play better. Big game coming up" without feeling urgency and not sounding concerned  ::)

If they don't care, or are unserious, why should I be? I've seen enough of this over the years now.

Even last year's Finals run they had these kinds of letdowns and annoying instances. They still made it, but then got beat by a Warriors team they should have beat, but they didn't make adjustments.

That’s my thinking as well. If they lose I will be disappointed, but this isn’t like the Pierce, Garnett, Ray Allen, squad for me. I loved that team.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

It's hard.  It's supposed to be entertainment, and this nonsense isn't entertaining.

It could be worse:  you could have dropped several hundreds of dollars to see this embarrassment in person.

I unfortunately did

Players have no real leader , only an over whelmed inexperienced coach who can’t muster the troops during the heat of battle.

Honestly I'm about ready to abandon the NBA again. The fix job in game 4 had me ready, and this team's lethargy certainly doesn't help.

NBA fans are both the problem and the solution. Just stop watching. It did wonders for my mental state after the 2001 Lakers-Kings fix. The owners could speak up but they don't. And so we're left with a league full of actors. They don't deserve our money.

Watching old 80s Celtics games does the trick for me

Yeah, same here. Watch old teams I respect who play the right way.

Totally agree with you. Haven't been watching live games lately. Feels like the games are rigged. Worse, the league isn't about 32 teams.

I’m fairly infuriated right now. And I feel
Stupid because it is a basketball game. Fortunately I only feel really worked up for like 2 hours during something like this. Anyone else have any tips or thoughts on not letting Celtics get you overly upset as a fan?

To be blunt, after the crap the Bruins just pulled and what looks to be an incoming Celtics elimination, I've been considering pulling the plug on my sports fandom.

And a big reason why is because I just can't follow a team and not be emotionally invested. I get it; this is not life or death. But still, I'm a competitive person, and I literally cannot watch any sporting event without having a rooting interest—I'm all in, or I'm all out. If I don't have a rooting interest, I might as well be watching paint dry.

And I think Phantom is right—this Celtics team isn't serious. Not really. They say they are, and I'm sure they really do want to win and play well, etc., but I don't think they have "it," if you know what I mean. These guys aren't going at it Bird style, Jordan style, Kobe style. As much as Boston fans are criticized for being entitled, I think the Celtics may be entitled. I mean, Brown, Tatum, and Smart have been in the postseason pretty much every year of their careers, and have gone far several times, so maybe they feel like it should just happen every year.

I feel your pain, man, I really do. I hate that I get so stressed out and infuriated, especially when the Positivity Police always seem to be lurking, ready to pounce on any negativity. I've handled these last two losses better, mostly by just not spending much time commenting or reading other people's comments, but it's been a big challenge to do that. I'd probably be better off if I just ditched sports fandom completely, because really, what does it add to life? WAY more frustration than anything positive.

Be like Jeff Goldblum in Annie Hall. Find your mantra. Ex:It’s just a game, man.

Now, if you paid an extra mortgage payment to see them in person and they deliver a performance like that? Yeah. Boo away. Be upset.

But for most of us, unless you’re gambling, watching a bad basketball game from our team doesn’t materially impact us in any real way. Obviously we’d all rather watch the C’s win, but the sun is still going to come up tomorrow. You probably have good things in your life to look forward to that aren’t Celtics related, those are still happening. &c..

Like a lot of other posters have alluded to - it’s ok to check out on a season or a series or a roster if you’re not being entertained. Fandom is fandom, you don’t owe the team anything.

(But I’m still cheering for Celtics in 7)

Yeah, Wish I could help. I have been in love with this franchise since the 60's, so at this point I am left to suffer.
It's very painful watching the team that is the most successful and storied in the league, that won 16 titles in 30 years, struggle like we have the last 36 years. Red was a genius and he built and rebuilt three separate championship groups during three decades. The man had the golden touch and it seemed every move he made worked, whether it was drafting or trading players or hiring the next head coach. And then, Len Bias happened and the Boston Celtics have not been the same since. And it hurts.

The current players have no understanding of what it means to be a Boston Celtic.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

Seeing guys take a look at Embiid during their drive to the cup, and then just dishing out is infuriating. Can someone other than White and Brogdon please develop a floater?

Life is full of challenges and you reach a point (I'm 65 now) where sports entertainment just isn't a priority anymore. I've slowly given up watching live Red Sox games, then live Patriots games, leaving only the C's. Then with this season, I stopped watching live C's games and only watch the replay if they won. I guess I'm a front-runner in that respect, but I have my sanity to take care of.

I would rather be a bit bored than upset at a stupid basketball game. I want to do stuff I really love: playing music, working in the garden, hiking, camping, cycling and spending time with my wife, daughter, granddaughter. TV entertainment is simply not a priority for me anymore and that includes watching basketball games.

yup. i went through that 10 -12 years ago as well albeit it hit me much younger than you. time is fleeting. spend it with those you love. do what you enjoy. i'm mainly a college football guy, MLB and NHL guy. i do not really care for the NFL anymore nor NBA as a whole. i only watch because of the celtics. i had a team before who kept a GM i wanted gone so i stopped watching. i had a team before who we knew would never win a title so apathy sets in and you stop caring and move on. he was finally fired 5 years too late.

This celtic team we have followed for years since the rebuild and now want results. if they do not fire joe apathy will set in to this fan base and they will stop watching and caring as well. Brad.wyc messed up bad and needs to fix it asap. they are sitting on top of a tinderbox.

we shoulda traded JB and got durant. we are in win now mode. i do not want another rebuild. this one has taken 10 years since we traded for picks in 2013.

fire this coach. fix this roster. go all out this offseason. if joe is retained i am done with this team until he is fired.
LET'S GO CELTICS!
