I had to chuckle that during the game thread for Game 4, there were people howling why Mazzula was not playing Kornet more.  Why is he playing Tillman!!!  Mazzulla is such a bad coach!!!

He’s flawed but he still has a better record than anyone on this board.
;)

Are there any legit Fire Joe arguments that make sense?

so you think he is a top 5 coach? how much of these results are from his coaching or the players? You think we can do no better? Show me joes resume versus others. Because we are not NBA coaches does not make him infallible or beyond criticism. so you would take nobody else in the NBA right now over joe if offered?

Let me tell you something. There was  aguy named leslie miles who won a natty and played for another. he rode talent and some assistant coaches. he himself could not coach his way out a paper sack. it showed per performances, lack of adjustments, player and game management, etc. no differentthan what we see with joe now.

send joe to college and lets see what he can really do. or send him to a rebuilding team. not a team LOADED with stars.

do it and tell me the results.

i will be patiently waiting

Are the top 5 coaches the only guys that shouldn't be immediately fired to bring in someone new? No one is saying he's beyond criticism, but criticizing someone and saying they should be fired aren't the same thing.
plus, it isn't like there are any top 5 coaches available. I mean are guys like Atkinson, Borrego, Bickerstaff, etc. any better than Mazz?  Mazz is fine and he is getting better.  Still the youngest coach in the game.

TP for you as I laughed at that too.  I do not think Mazzula is a top 5 coach, but do not think coaching moves the needle that much outside of the top 3 or so guys really.

The rotations is just something a coach will truly never win in.  People were calling for Brissett to play instead of Kornet so he did.  Then after a game it was clear Brissett was not helping at all so people asked for Tillman to play and he played him.  Last night Tillman had some real tough minutes and people asked for Kornet.  All three of those guys are very flawed and are going to have some tough minutes where we are going to complain no matter who is out there (that goes for Svi, Q and Springer too who should not see any time).  It is the same with giving Tatum rests during the game vs. not.  In the 3rd quarter when the other team goes on a quick 5-0 run with Tatum on the bench it is Mazz messed up and should have never sat him.  If he played the whole 3rd quarter and was exahusted in the 4th and had little lift on his jumper then it would be how Mazzula plays him in to the ground and has to find time to rest him.  Rotations are easy to complain about and is why a coach is never going to win in those.

tillman was getting abused. ok great. you tried him. he did great in the past but not today. hey no biggie. at least your tried.

FACT

when someone is getting beat try something else. use your players that is what they are there for.

not a hard concept to comprehend.

How about the move to take out Tatum w 5 fouls for a defensive sequence and insert Tillman? Then a timeout. Tatum went on to influence every possession down the stretch w either buckets, rebounds or defense.

Quality in game management from Joe. Growing up right before our eyes  :'(

There were actually calls for his firing in the game thread when he did that  :police:

Like anyone in a management position, people want you to be doing something, or seen as doing something, not just sitting there...if you get your move right you're a hero, if not you're a dunce. It's the ultimate results business

I don't really think it matters what's said on this thread. The players hugged Joe, they celebrated with Joe, and we've seen comments from all the players throughout the season + playoffs praising Mazzulla. It's a far cry from last year. It might not be a stretch to say he's shown improvement and growth from 2023. He's also done a pretty good job with the timeouts, ATOs and rotations at times in the clutch. Yeah some decisions here or there can be critiqued, but like the part about constantly shooting 3s, are we sure that's only Mazzulla or it's also the front office + analytics groups? Even with CBS and Ime they shot a bunch of 3s in games. It's not like they never shot 3s and then Mazzulla took over and suddenly they jack them up. I don't really put that all on Joe.

Or maybe, just maybe, he put Kornet in vs. CLE because he thought that was the right match up and he put Tillman in vs. IND because he though Tillman was right for that match up.  He played Brissett a little when Kornet wasn't available.  None of these guys are very good.  No matter who it puts in, he gets criticized.  None of them have been a "hot hand" at any point in the playoffs.

I thought Tillman was fine vs. IND.  Kornet wasn't going to be any better.  I am not going to nit-pick Mazzulla over this.

Oh boy, this thread is full of some doozies. 160+ pages of pure brilliance.

My favorite: they shoot too many 3's!

Keep shooting the rock! They needed the first quarter shooting. If Dallas wants to play soft perimeter defense, make them pay for it.

C’s had 42 attempts from 3pt and shot 38%. I will take it.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Nice game plan from Joe and our coaching staff for game 1.  Attacked the mismatches well and made Luka work on defense.  The defensive scheme was good too.  Good timing on constricting Luka's space when he drove.
