They could have brought in a high quality player or two with the TPEs. They simply didn't want to spend the money.
I personally would have liked to have seen them add Plumlee and Bey. Plumlee ($9,080,417 salary for 2022-23) cost the Clippers Reggie Jackson and a 2028 2nd round pick. Hawks gave up Kevin Knox and five future 2nd round picks for Bey ($2,959,080 salary for 2022-23).
Plumlee would have worked last offseason since the 17.1 TPE expired 7/18/22. Reddish fit the 5.9 exception which expired 2/10/23. And Hachimura fit the 6.9 exception which expired 1-19-23. I'd just as soon have gone with Reddish and Hachimura. Point is, they could have gotten even deeper than they already are, but they didn't. We go with what we've got. That being said, Grant Williams needs to play. Period.
