No. At least it doesn't deserve a suspension. Murray barely brushed against the ref. Murray is out of line and probably warrants a fine but not a suspension.

Sorry, all these comments are mistaken. The severity of the contact is irrelevant.

So do you think Tatum will be suspended too?

BTW, is there a video of Tatum bumping the ref? After seeing the video of Murray, I'd like to see the Tatum hit because I just don't remember seeing it.

It was right after the flagrant foul on Trae. Tatum got up and headed towards Trae and the ref stepped in to stop him. Tatum slowed down, Eg didn’t push through the ref, but pushed away a little bit as if to say “ok, I won’t go after him but get your hands off me”. It was minor and Tatum didn’t initiate the contact. The ref was playing peacemaker and it worked.

Sorry can’t find the video either. EDIT. Roy found a link. TP to him.

Two completely different situations. The ref initiated it to deescalate an issue so that's normal behavior for how the player reacts.

Murray was straight up intentional and targeted.

According to Surferdad (and others), the severity of the contact is irrelevant. With Tatum's history of complaining to the officials, that push by him can be viewed as being frustrated with another bad call and Jayson just taking the next step to venting. Unfortunately there isn't much difference by letter of the rule.

I don't think Murray should be suspended. But if he does, I can see the argument for why Tatum should too.

I don’t see any comparison at all.  Tatum was moving AWAY from the ref.  I’m not even sure he knew who it was that had their hands on him.  He got up quick but he never once moved towards Trae so there really wasn’t any reason for ref to even be there.  They reviewed the play and I’m sure they looked at it all the way through and they understandably decided no penalty should be assessed to Tatum at that time

I agree on Murray.  Regarding Tatum, I'm not sure if that's normal behavior, or if it's behavior the league wants to encourage toward referees.  It shouldn't be a suspension, but it also shouldn't be normalized to allow players to push / shrug off refs when they're restraining them.

Lots of cases in the past where a referee has initiated contact with a player to stop (or out of fear of) something escalating and the player pushing off from the ref to walk away. Never any suspensions for that in the past so this would be something new for Tatum to receive any suspension for this.

Considering the refs didn’t feel then need to whistle Tatum during the game probably means they didn’t feel it was intentional.

The look on the ref’s face after Murray went at him says they probably would’ve ejected him had this been during the game. The league may look at Tatum’s interaction and possibly fine him. The league will definitely review Murray’s actions, he’ll definitely get fined, and I would not be surprised if he does get suspended.

I agree with this.  Tatum's action was total spur of the moment and the ref was certainly not the intended target of his ire. I'd be p---ed off too if I just got fouled in the manner that it happened. He could've been seriously hurt.   It didn't look great but Tatum clearly wasn't targeting that ref and it was more a hapless bystander thing.  I am a bit surprised Tatum didn't get T'd up but it certainly doesn't warrant any sort of suspension.

All I can say is that JT can count himself lucky that Trae had just flagrantly fouled him, which probably influenced how the ref (No50) decided to handle the situation. I feel he was right on the edge with what he did, incidental or not. He could have easily been T'd up.
