Will fans be as dysregulated as they are today, or will we see more? Where did this entitlement originate?

Entitlement?  It’s probably fair to ask a team to not just go through the motions, right?  And blow a 28 point lead in less than two quarters?  Particularly when it’s basically impossible to get a Loge seat for under $100.

Yes, entitlement. A lot of teams have bad losses. Boston isn’t superior to other cities.

First, Boston is superior to lots of cities.

And second, the Celtics are more talented than almost all teams this year.  They should be criticized for lack of energy and focus.

The Celtics players are employees of a business.  If you ordered dinner at an exclusive, expensive restaurant and the chefs and staff decided to put out a subpar product, would that be entitlement?

Many aspects of basketball are subject to a degree of chance.  Effort isn’t one of them.

Expectations are super high.  As they should be.  This team is in win now mode and a title contender.  Things have been building to this for basically a decade now.  This team was in the Finals last year.  Anything short of another Finals appearance will be seen as a failure.  Fans here are hungry for a championship.  They were close last year so its dangling there now.  Any time this team has a setback, there's going to be overreactions, criticisms, pessimism. That's the nature of fandom.

That's where the emotions on here are coming from.

Expectations are too high. Milwaukee is better. I think people forgot that Middleton was injured and losing Ime hurt.

Milwaukee may be better, although I don’t think they are with Middleton struggling.  But, they maintain focus and energy better.

Brooklyn certainly isn’t better, and they kicked our ass.

I'll be furious. This is the best team in the league. Anything less than a title is failure.

Yes, it would be entitled. Focusing on the bad at the expense of the good. I’ve been horrified when I see grown men verbally attack young waiters/waitresses when their expectations aren’t met. Great example of entitlement.

What an odd viewpoint.  Your world view is basically “you get what you get, don’t complain” no matter how you’re treated as a consumer.

You can certainly complain. Like everything, it is how you communicate. Acting childish isn’t going to help.

Roy, didn’t you say this roster was poorly constructed? How do you pair that with super high expectations?

I haven’t seen much on here that rises to the level of “childish” or “entitlement”.  The criticism looks more like legitimate dissatisfaction with the team’s effort.

As for roster construction, I’ve said that coming into the season with all of Jackson, Vonleh and Kornet was poor decision-making.  Fortunately we have upgraded Vonleh, and the top-seven remains elite in terms of talent.

I’m talking about the Game Day Threads that very frequently devolve into poop. I check in occasionally to see if there’s measured dialogue, but I prob shouldn’t any more.

This didn’t start last night either. People have been brutal prior to the Nets loss and prior to the Milwaukee win streak.

Also, what makes Boston a superior city?

I think for most fans here it's more anxiety than entitlement. Most of us know that championship windows are rare, and nothing is guaranteed. We have a great opportunity with Tatum and Brown entering their primes, and came really close last year. It would be very disappointing to miss out on a championship with this group. We've seen windows suddenly close due to an injury or players not working out well together before. Most of us are anxious to make sure we give ourselves the best shot at it while we can with this core. It could be decades before another Tatum and Brown walk through that door again after this.
