Why would you choose to close with White over Smart when Tatum and Brown are going to be using the vast majority of opportunities on the offensive end?  You would be removing a better playmaker with a tremendous nose for the big play on both ends of the floor, for what, a slightly better shooter that isn't going to get many shots?

I think the ball moves when White is in the game. His energy moves the needle in the right direction on both ends. He makes the right play more often. He doesn’t force the ball. He doesn’t get cocky or needlessly fancy when up. He is better from 3.  He doesn’t get carried away with the 3 (Smart does this less often than in the past).  His head is always in the game.
Smart can be incredibly disruptive on D in a way no one else can - so it’s a tough call, but if choosing one or the other, I say White even though the Cs will have the Jays on the court.

Smart is costing us games, period. Taking away minutes and shots from White, who has undoubtedly been the better player in the past two months. It's ridiculous. Smart isn't even making the "winning plays", he's making loser plays regularly each night now. Shot 4-17 tonight. Not really making an impact on defense either. Frustrating.

Brogdon over both of them. He’s so good.

We tend to always remember Smart’s high reel plays, just like we remember Tatum’s long 3 pts. The truth is that both are not good 3 pt shooters. it always amazes me that Joe give free reign to them to shoot at will, especially in the crunch time.

Smart puts this team into so many bad situations. He’s really not good.

Smart has always been hard to control with the three point shot. Ime did a bit better job about it last year over Brad, but he still had plenty of leeway.

I think the current offensive philosophy of "no three is a bad three" just exacerbates this issue with Smart.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

I feel like if Joe can't get Smart straightened out by the time playoffs get here (IE soon) that it is going to sink this team in the playoffs.

Smart has been a warrior in past seasons in the playoffs.  He cuts back on his shots, ups the def effort and leadership.  If he can't get back on track (and it starts with this combustible attitude lately) I think Joe needs to go to DWhite to at least finish games.

I like this-season-pre-injury Smart, actually.

Before the most recent injury, Smart averaged around 7 assists per game. Since his return, he has been averaging around 4 assists per game.  He is clearly a different player now, focusing more on shooting.

If this is what Joe has in mind then he is losing his mind.

I actually really like Marcus but as things are right now is this even close? It wouldn’t hurt my feelings at all if Marcus was completely benched in favor of White and Brogdon and had to fight for situational minutes with Pritchard

I'm sorry but Smart has been a loser since coming back. Losing his mind in multiple games, and also hurting us in the clutch situations in a lot of games. We've still won some of them but because of our other talent. Even our commentators who are typically biased are like "what the hell Smart"

Then Smart loses his mind again and gets ejected.

Meanwhile White AND Brogdon are in the game late and they both calmly help the team secure a game that should have been won minutes before, but Smart's turnovers and dumb decisions kept ATL in it

The C's and Mazzula really need to be honest with themselves. Is having Smart starting and/or finishing these games really the best thing for the C's going forward? White has proven more than capable and does all the little things as well. And it's not like Smart is playing this elite defense consistently either. White has been solid on that end too

I have to say the team is better when white is st PG over smart.  He plays great team basketball.  He's always in control and very unselfish.  He is a much much better scorer then smart and rarely makes a bone headed play.  I love Marcus.  He's done a lot for this team over the years but with the guard depth next year may be time to cash in on his value and get something of value back.

Think Smart and Timelord are trade bait this offseason for a real impact big man. Tired of his schtick. He started the season off so promising and has reverted back to his old frustrating self. White is a superior player offensively and defensively. Honestly think Marcus Smart has a lot of “loser mentality” that in him that rubs off the team.
