He’s been bad over the last 10 games or so, shooting under 30% from 3pt. Hard to keep him in games to “play through it” when the team is losing. I don’t mind Hauser on the roster as a deep bench guy, like a 3rd stringer, but he’s too one dimensional for regular use. Sam doesn’t do anything well other than catch and shoot 3’s and right now he’s not even good at that.

Yeah this has been so disappointing.  At the beginning of the year it looked like we made up for the decision to keep Javonte Green over Max Strus.  Strus would be tremendous on this team right now.  Not sure what has happened to Sam.  At the beginning of the year it looked like everything was going in.  Now it looks like he's lucky to hit rim.

Nothing happened.  He is a 25 year old 2nd year player that wasn't drafted, was barely a top 100 recruit in his draft class and that spent 4 years in college. In other words, the fact that he is even on a roster is an accomplishment.  He just isn't good enough and has never been good enough.  A hot streak can happen as he is a quality shooter, but that hot streak has made people blind to the fact that Hauser should be the 14th or 15th man, not a regular rotation player, and frankly he should be playing regularly in Maine to see if he can develop into a rotation type player with more consistent shooting.

This is all the result of terrible roster construction.  Boston entered this season with 3 worthless players, Hauser, and Kornet or Griffin (1 is fine, but not both). that is 33% of the roster that really shouldn't play.  That is the problem, has been the problem, and continues to be the problem with this team.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Bigs - Shaquille O'Neal, Victor Wembanyama
Wings -  Lebron James
Guards - Luka Doncic

I think he’s salvageable, but I wouldn’t count on him for the rest of this season.  I’d like to pick up a more experienced wing (preferably with some size) through trade or the buyout market.  The Nets just acquired Finney-Smith, so maybe they might make TJ Warren available, although maybe not to us.  I’m sure Stevens can find someone.

I'd obviously love there to be a better buyout candidate available, like Barton or Richardson.

I am not sure why anyone is surprised that Hauser came back down to earth.  I doubt he is going anywhere but I also doubt he will have much if any impact once the playoffs start.  He will continue to get some level of minutes through the regular season and will probably fluctuate back and forth some between hot and cold.

I don’t think anybody expected him to shoot 50% the entire season, or lead the league in plus-minus.

But, did anybody expect him to shoot 29.2% from 3PT the past 30 games?  (He shot 48.9% 3PT% over his first 21.)

I keep forgetting TJ Warren is on the Nets. They are loaded at forward with Durant, B Simmons, Finney Smith, Royce O'Neale and TJ Warren.

I wonder if they would move Ben Simmons to a bench role as backup center as a playmaking skilled big. Sorta like the role Danny Manning played for the Phoenix Suns in the mid-to-late 1990s.

Start Finney Smith next to Durant. Get another shooter out there to help lineup balance with Kyrie's scoring now gone. Help counter-balance Nic Claxton's lack of offense.

I see this roster as an 8 man rotation:

Guards: Smart, Brogdon, D White
Fowards: Tatum, Jaylen, G Williams
Centers: Horford, R Williams

Then with short cameos of either Hauser (SF) or Kornet / B Griffin (C) when a 9th man is needed for a short stretch. None of those guys are regular rotation players. Just called upon when needed types dependent on the matchups.

The thing with Snell, is Snell any better than playing Smart or Brogdon or D White at SF?

He is taller and longer but a worse overall basketball player. I like Snell. I am surprised he is not in the league. But frankly, going small is a better option. Or going bigger with G Williams at SF.

Hard pressed to find a backup SF who is superior than those guys sliding up (guards) or down (G Williams) a position.

I'd see Snell more as deep insurance similar to Hauser. A non-regular member of the rotation. Essentially a 3rd stringer. Call upon when needed.

Those guys would be ok, but like you, I hope Stevens can find a better option.

Gallo would have been ideal, hopefully he has something left next year.

That’s assuming everyone is healthy/available which hasn’t been the case all year long. Having to rely on Hauser, Kornet and Griffin to play meaningful minutes when starters have been out is a real problem.

Snell is a long rangey defender at 6'7" witha 7' wingspan. He's bigger than all those guys including Grant. He's a career 40% 3 point shooter and a proven vet. If he still has gas in the tank he seems like a good fit.

I think the team needs to commit playing time to Hauser on a consistent basis, and let him play through slumps. It will only benefit the team in the long run.

It will also benefit our opponents with his defense, but yeah he needs PT
