I guess if your team is winning 10 in a row, 14 of the last 15, easily best record in NBA. etc. You could say a comment like that, albeit cocky.

But in a 3 team 3gb or less for top seed, coming off a 3 game losing streak, this comment just screams why this team has not won a championship already.

Do you have the quote or a link to it?

EDIT:

Quote
“Just not getting bored with the simple plays, just doing the little things that work all the time,” Mazzulla said, when asked what the Celtics need to do to build consistency. “Sometimes that can be really hard over the long course of a season, and you just can’t get bored doing those things. They are very, very simple, and the simplest things breed the most reward on both ends. So you just can’t get bored with doing simple things.”

So are the Celtics just getting a little bored?

“At times, yeah,” Brown said. “That’s part of a season, and that also reflects leadership. As one of the leaders of this team, I’ve got to do better in making sure my energy is contagious to the rest of our group, and tonight was an example of that.”

It might be this comment, from the coach, not Jaylen (unless I missed another quote actually said by Jaylen)

I'm guessing Jaylen is using the same lingo. It's not pride. It's understanding the carelessness they've been playing with.

I think it's natural for many teams to become complacent, especially as they're dealing with injuries or are simply tired.  But, it's certainly not a best practice.  It's what separates a team that wins 50-ish games from a team that wins 60.

Pretty much.

I can understand the dog days of the season.  Tough to get up for every game or a perceived lesser opponent.  Even happened during the new Big Three era.

Ideally, I just don't want it to cost them seeding but I understand it.

That was one of the best qualities of Michael Jordan. It was amazing how consistently competitive, how few let-ups, those Chicago Bulls teams had in the 1990s.

When MJ is playing that hard, it is tough for others not to feel pressured to match him.

I think this is where they’re missing Smart’s leadership.  He doesn’t let his teammates become complacent.

Kevin Garnett also.  He would not let that team get complacent even for one game or one quarter.  We don't have a Kevin Garnett right now but of course neither do most teams.

What I see is lack of scheme and execution on offense.  Maybe boredom is part of the equation but they have a tendency to fall back into bad habits on offense.  I guess it is kind of tedious to work the scheme every possession.  Coaching is a part of that.  The scheme has to be there.  The players of course also.  They have to execute.

I remember Phil Jackson used to give players different goals frequently to try and keep motivation up. Steve Kerr does this too. He tries to give daily goals or daily messages. Something like that. Popovich had his ways also. Like having Ginobili do timeout plays for a game.

Try various things to keep players fresh and engaged throughout the long season.

Was hoping to hear a story about how Brown stayed late to shoot FT, but instead we get this.

That hot start was the worst thing that could've happened to this team. Went to their heads.

Oh boy. The worst thing that could have happened is that they won a lot of games?

Yeah true, maybe we were better off starting 25-25 and being a 7 seed right now  ::)

The winning was good of course, but the way they won I don't think helped. Lots of 3's and that has led them to settle into bad habits.
That's what I was meaning by saying it might have not helped in the long run.

It's brad ball on steroids.
